Nursey Assistant

To provide continuity of care for the groups of children within the Day Nursery ensuring that each child is provided with a safe, secure, emotionally and physically stimulating environment and programme of activities in which to develop.

Location: Southampton

Temporary: TBC

Hours / days: Adhoc working Monday -Friday

Pay: Upto £10.00 per hour Umbrella or £8.75 per hour PAYE

Duties:
  • To be fully responsible for the children in your care, providing a consistently safe, secure and stimulating environment.
  • To provide a wide range of enjoyable, stimulating and educational activities for a group of children, covering all aspects of the child's individual development in accordance with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
  • To be a key-person (if allocated a group by the Nursery Manager) building a strong attachment and knowing your key children well as individuals.
  • To maintain required records of children's development, learning and activities. This includes completion of; message sheets, ECAT, starting point summaries, termly reviews, Tapestry observations, planning records and any other records requested.
  • To work alongside the nursery SENDco to support children with additional needs ensuring that their development is promoted as fully as possible.
  • To follow the Department Safeguarding policy ensuring that concerns are raised appropriately.
  • To ensure that statutory child: adult ratio is met at all times notifying a member of the Leadership and Management team if ratio cannot be met.
  • To ensure that accidents and/ or problems with individual children, staff or parents/ carers are brought to the Duty Manager's attention.
  • To hold a clear Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check notifying the Leadership and Management team if you have any involvement with the police.
  • Attend regular training sessions, which may be out of working hours, and implement learning from training within your practice.
  • Attend and contribute to regular staff meetings, which may be out of working hours.
  • Assist in activities outside of working hours (e.g. fund raising events, open evenings).
  • Adhere to the Department Policies and Procedures, and Code of Conduct and be prepared to answer questions/ explain these to parents or visitors (including Ofsted).
  • Respect the principle of confidentiality of information gained through your work, including when using social media outside of work.
  • Promoting a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene standards through: monitoring and supervising of nappy changing/ toilet and washing procedure, regular cleaning of toys and equipment, the cleaning of children's crockery and bedding.
  • Assist in the preparation and serving of food and supervision of mealtimes.
  • To exercise a duty of care for work colleagues and to be responsible for ensuring a safe working environment for all children, staff and visitors. Minimise hazards and report any faulty equipment or hazards within the working environment.
