A leading Independent IT Infrastructure and Services Consultancy seeks an Infrastructure Designer/Engineer for a 6 month contract initially with a retail client based in Northampton.

Working within the Infrastructure Hosting team translating requirements from solutions architects into deployable and runnable designs to meet the functional and nonfunctional requirements. The role holder would be expected to have a broad experience in Microsoft technologies, and a proven track record of performing similar activities in the past. Although working alongside and in conjunction with the Hosting team, they will be expected to work upon their own initiative, using past experience and best practices, in order to 'own' the upgrade activity for the solution end to end.

Key Skills Required
Designing and Deploying enterprise solutions across multiple Operating Systems (Primarily Windows but with a working understanding of Ubuntu Linux & Red Hat)
Knowledge of, and experience in, Microsoft Active Directory, Group Policy, Powershell, including Desired Configure State
Microsoft SCOM, VMM, WSUS and SCCM
Experience in working in a virtualised environment in an enterprise class data centre.
Experience in HP and UCS Enclosures and Blades and NetApp sans an advantage
Experience of designing, deploying and supporting solutions on Cloud Infrastructure is an advantage

Key Deliverables
Producing high level and low level technical designs, with adherence to IT design authority Processes as well as change control processes.
Supporting infrastructure build engineers and participating in the build activities, to ensure the successful Introduction of a solution.
Defining operational acceptance testing of solutions and ensuring solutions are fully tested before being handed over to the run teams.
Production of operating instructions and leading the knowledge transfer to build and support teams for new technology.
Providing short term support during solution delivery, and ongoing fourth line support for such. On occasions this may involve some out of hours telephone / remote support.
Discover their current integrations and dependencies
Design the end state, including gaining Architectural and Security sign off
Identify and prove the upgrade path
Work with the deployment team with the build of the upgraded solution, including transition of Knowledge into the 'run' team
Work with other IT teams and business stakeholders to migrate the business to the new platform / solution

Potential Projects
Domain Controller upgrade to supported OS / Potential Functional Level upgrade as future phase (Current W2008r2)
Removal of Microsoft Exchange
Migration of SharePoint
Multiple Client / Server / SQL Backend third party applications currently hosted on W2003 /W2008
Migration of Single server applications and hosted websites to supported platform
