Financial Controller - £50k-£60k - Bedford

An SME business, who are a part of a multi-£bn turnover privately held business, are recruiting for a qualified Financial Controller to head up the Financial function of this business unit. Based in a picturesque location on the border of Bedfordshire.

Newly created role based in Bedford, where you have the freedom to build a finance team around you and implement new financial reporting and controls systems.

As the key Finance contact, you will also act as a Finance Business Partner to the operational teams, supporting the strategy of the business and working closely with senior operational colleagues.

Financial Controller - Key Responsibilities:
  • Implement robust financial controls and make sure accounting is in line with group policies and procedures
  • Lead monthly board review meetings, working closely with directors to discuss financial performance, risks and opportunity
  • Drive cost-saving initiatives and standard costing processes
  • Co-ordinate preparation of budget and forecasts
  • Manage year-end processes and statutory accounts preparation, including corporation tax.
  • Provide external financial reporting to HMRC.
  • Maximise cashflow and implement controls to monitor cash position.
  • In the medium to long-term, build a strong team of accountants as the business expands.
  • Management of a finance team with all direct reports being based in Bedford.

You will be a full qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) with circa 5+ years experience within accounts. Knowledge of SAP would be beneficial as well as a previous track record of partnering with non-finance teams.

This role would be very well suited to someone who has operated as a Financial Controller or Finance Manager, looking for more autonomy and the chance to put their own stamp on things. since this role is newly created in the business, there won't be any cleaning up of mess or fixing improper processes.
