Senior Sister / Charge Nurse - Dermatology - Band 7

Hi and welcome, thank you for looking at this job advert. My name is Amanda Pacey and I'm the Senior Matron for the Dermatology Unit. We are looking for a senior nurse who is willing to embrace the opportunity to come to Bath, the RUH and work with us and run the Dermatology unit. It is a progressive unit in a lovely area. We need someone who is proactive and likes a challenge, with support where needed from me. There is a proactive and planned approach to a supported development program for managerial responsibilities for future career opportunities.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced nurse to lead the nursing team in our Dermatology Clinic as the Senior Sister. The Dermatology unit is a busy outpatient department offering a nurse led day treatment unit, Consultant outpatient clinics with minor surgical facilities and phototherapy. There is a committed nursing team consisting of Skin Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialists, Junior Sisters, Registered Nurses and Health Care Assistants.

Working closely with the Consultants, medical teams, and me the matron, as well as collaboratively with the in-patient wards, I am aiming to recruit a nurse who will provide strong professional and clinical leadership and expertise in the speciality of Dermatology nursing. With responsibility for the day to day running of the unit you would also help to continue with the development and re-design our nursing service and assist in the provision of nurse led care for patients referred to the Dermatology day centre. You will also monitor and lead improvements to standards of care through; supervision of practice, clinical audit, evidence based practice, the teaching and supporting of professional colleagues and the provision of skilled professional leadership.

You will manage the nursing team including appraisals, staff development, rota management and recruitment and governance to ensure that the team is meeting all targets. As the Lead Nurse you will also supervise junior nursing staff and students and act as a competency assessor where appropriate.

Along with your post registration experience in Dermatology or wound care and a suitable qualification in mentoring, teaching and assessing students, you should also be able to demonstrate your on-going professional development or relevant clinical experience. You will need to be an excellent team leader who can demonstrate a track record of leading teams and supporting change. You will need excellent communication skills, both written and verbal in order to be able to inspire and motivate the nursing staff so that compassionate patient centred care is embedded into clinical practice. The senior sister is a busy role so you will need excellent time management and organisation skills.

If you are interested in joining and leading our nursing team and would like to discuss the role further please contact Senior Matron Amanda Pacey 01225 821030 ( Email address removed )
