Job description

This role will be based in the Business Outsourcing team. This team provides a range of business services to a diverse client base ranging from small businesses and start-ups to substantial international groups, with turnovers ranging from £5 million to £250 million.

The successful candidate will manage department resources, work closely with other departments to ensure close liaison on client affairs and assist in administration tasks to ensure a smooth running of the department.

Key responsibilities

• Client Portfolio - ensure that clients receive an efficient and proactive service and client expectations are exceeded.
• Produce management and statutory accounts, including related services, and setting budgets - awareness of commercial aspects of clients’ business. Arrangement of timetable, booking of staff, planning and completion of management accounts, statutory accounts, VAT returns and other related assignments.
• Business Development - attending networking events and building up a client portfolio.
• Department Administration - monitoring of billing/lock-up and staffing levels.
• Training and development of team.
• Ensure WIP provisioning is kept up to date on a monthly basis as considered appropriate.
• Review Management accounts and unaudited statutory accounts prepared by members in the team.

Candidate Profile

• Strong academic history.
• Qualified accountant (ACA, CA, ACCA).
• Experience of working in a top accountancy firm.
• Significant experience of management accounts, statutory accounts and VAT returns gained within an accountancy practice.
• Experience of working with entrepreneurial, OMB and SME clients.
• Appetite for business development activities such as targeting, preparation of proposal documents, proposal presentations and attendance of networking events.
• Demonstrable working knowledge of accounting standards.
• Demonstrable working knowledge of technical VAT compliance areas such as: partial exemption, cash accounting scheme, application of the reverse charge rules and EC Sales List requirements.
• Strong communication skills.
• Previous experience of people management and recruiting junior staff.
• Experience of managing costs and budgets
• Proficient user of cloud-based accounting systems.
• Skilled in the use of Caseware and Caseware Cloud (or similar).
• Experienced in the use of larger accounting packages such as Opera and Navision.
• An overview knowledge of company secretarial compliance and basic payroll compliance requirements for smaller entities.

Location & Hours

This role is office based in the centre of Bristol. Part or full-time offered. Minimum of 3 days per week (or equivalent hours spread across the week) up to full-time.
