An award winning UK textile innovator, independently owned, specialising in the design & manufacture of contract upholstery fabrics for commercial interiors and mass passenger transport. The company is based in the UK's West Yorkshire textile heartland, with additional manufacturing in Lithuania and Nottingham, from where it extends global reach into some 80 countries worldwide via established offices, warehousing and distribution channels in Europe, North America, China and Australia. This company sells over 8 million metres of fabric a year for use in commercial offices, banks, government departments, universities, NHS, cinema, auditoria and transportation applications in buses, coaches, trains and underground.

Key Tasks

- To manage the laboratory team, help to introduce best practice ways of working to drive excellence and to enhance their internal and external reputation.
- To support the development, implementation and then on-going certification of ISO 17025
- Management of non-conformances, ensure a robust reporting system is in place that drives continuous improvement - review and challenge measures to raise standards and ensure robust feedback processes are in place, escalating risks and / or concerns to ensure swift corrective action is implemented.
- Create, update and implement required Laboratory documentation in line with ISO 17025 ensuring that document control processes are followed.
- Undertake periodic audits to assess the performance of laboratory personnel against written processes and procedures.
- Maintain and update the helpdesk system, implementing improvements in line with ISO 17025. Ensuring customer satisfaction by updating customers regularly with progress, lead times and completion dates therefore improving service levels.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping in the laboratory area ensuring high professional standards are always maintained whilst ensuring that all work is carried out in accordance with health and safety procedures, guaranteeing the safety of both self and other laboratory workers.
- Provide advice and guidance regarding testing to internal customers when required in order to support the development of knowledge within the company.

Knowledge and aptitudes required:

- Experience of working to ISO 17025 standards
- An understanding of worldwide standards
- Experience of conducting technical textile testing
- Textile degree or equivalent desirable
- Knowledge of fabric manufacture processes desirable
- Experience of carrying out internal calibration and maintenance on test equipment desirable
