Lead Engineer / Senior Project Engineer - Aircraft Technology Integration - Airborne Electronic Warfare (EW)- Avionics, Electronic Warfare Systems Radar, EO/IR Sensor Systems, Infrared, Mission Management, Console Systems

Our client is a highly successful international aerospace company they are looking for a Senior Lead Engineer, responsible to the Chief Engineer Technology for the identification, evaluation and provision of key technologies and mission management systems relating to airborne Electronic Warfare (EW) training and surveillance systems for their aircrafts. The role requires extensive experience and knowledge of aircraft communication, radar and EO/IR systems and should have a sound working knowledge of aircraft integration, testing and flight certifying of role equipment in either a civil or military environment.

Accountable for ensuring the key technologies meet requirements and conform to the required design, safety, airworthiness and quality requirements, the post holder will also be accountable to bid and project managers for ensuring that these activities are delivered to time and within budget constraints.

The Lead Engineer / Senior Project Engineer will establish a high performing Technology Development Team, ensuring the correct mix of skill sets are available and developed to meet the bid and project requirements.

This role is based at Bournemouth Airport and requires infrequent travel.

As a Lead Engineer / Senior Project Engineer your skills and qualifications will ideally include:
  • Extensive experience of working within an aircraft mission environment specialising in one or more the following areas, electronic warfare systems, radar systems, EO/IR sensor systems, mission management/console systems, software integration and networks.
  • Aircraft systems Integration, testing and flight certification.
  • Network security, TEMPEST requirements, HMI design, Linux, C++.
  • Familiarity with aerospace and defence industries, markets, products and technologies
  • Through life V-Model lifecycle experience.
  • Requirements Management (all levels), methodologies and toolsets
  • Systems Design, methodologies and toolsets
  • Experience of regulatory requirements and procedures related to air traffic management and airborne systems is desirable
  • Excellent knowledge and experience of LCM and Engineering Design Reviews
  • Significant experience and understanding of configuration management techniques and associated standards.
  • Proven ability to work and deliver to time pressure and deadlines
  • Proven technical leadership role on projects to drive the engineered solution through lifecycle
  • Demonstrable performance in team building, fostering organisational culture and delivering continuous improvement.

As aLead Engineer / Senior Project Engineer your main responsibilities will involve:
  • Lead the maximization of team performance through motivation, conflict management and good communication.
  • The safety, quality and design compliance of all activities
  • Act as technical lead and design authority for nominated projects through the entire lifecycle
  • Technical planning, work package definition, execution, monitoring, risk identification, mitigation and issue resolution
  • Contribute to and lead customer meetings where appropriate
  • Liaising with the customer and user: negotiating requirements and presentation of proposals for new and existing system behaviour
  • Development of technical proposals in support of new bids, understanding, negotiating and presenting existing capability and new customer requirements
  • Understanding and reviewing systems, software, hardware, test and integration documentation to confirm that the software, hardware and architecture design are compliant
  • Maintain, grow and promote relevant technical skills and domain knowledge - help develop staff competency by sharing domain knowledge and skills
  • Contribute to bids and estimating - increase the chance of successful bid by providing appropriate/quality input to the satisfaction of the Bid Manager and other stakeholders
  • Fulfil tasks to agreed time, budget and quality
  • Carry out requirements engineering/management and engineering design methods as required
  • Recognising the need for and proposing process and product improvements to ensure best practice and compliance with relevant standards (including safety)
  • Provides governance to the team in the application of and compliance with engineering processes and practices, including engineering framework, LCM and regulatory requirements
  • Travel within the UK and overseas to support business needs as necessary
  • Any other duties that are reasonably requested by management within the capability of the incumbent.
