Quality Engineer (Industrial)

Location: Essex (near SS1)

Start Date: ASAP

We are a family business, specialising in the design and manufacture of process machinery. We are expanding rapidly during an exciting growth period and are seeking a driven individual to join our team as a Quality Engineer.

As Quality Engineer, you will have a large degree of autonomy to oversee the QHS function for the company (Quality, Health and Safety).

Position responsibilities:



Ownership and management of company ISO9001 including internal auditing and readiness for external audit

Maintain F4N accreditation

Maintain BROWZ accreditation

Maintain ATEX QAN accreditation

Maintain QHS&E manual


Maintain quality documents register (creation and control of quality related documentation)

Maintain and manage support tickets, acting as customer contact for defects or issues

Perform internal quality audits

Manage and maintain welder qualifications and weld approvals

Maintain staff training matrix

Maintain instrument calibration matrix

Review and approve project quality gate stages

Maintain register of project quality issues and track Right First Time KPI

Setting KPIs for the company and tracking / reporting on results

Creating and maintaining quality inspection checklists / SOPs for parts and machines

Work alongside Production Manager to identify and implement improvement projects (e.g. introduction of 'lean' manufacturing processes to improve efficiency and organisation)

Identify and implement better and repeatable procedures for manufacture

Provide technical support to project staff regarding machinery technical file requirements

Completion of inbound customer questionnaires and supplier assessment forms etc.

Completion of quality inspection checklists and sign-off prior to despatch of parts or machines (comparing finished item to spec and drawing etc)

Root Cause Analysis for defects or errors, putting in place solutions or controls to prevent recurrence. Checking for non-conformance, raising NCR on defects and recommending suitable corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)

Supplier auditing and booking of incoming materials after inspection.

External auditing, hosing the auditor.

Health & Safety


Ownership and management of company Health and Safety, including internal auditing and readiness for external audit

Obtain ISO 45001 accreditation

Maintain Safe Contractor accreditation


Maintain company risk assessments

Maintain H&S document register (creation and control of H&S related documentation)

Schedule health surveillance for workshop staff

Maintain fire risk assessments

Schedule extinguisher inspections

Perform internal H&S audits

Workshop PPE assessment and inspection



Maintain ISO14001 accreditation


Maintain environmental document register (creation and control of environment related documentation)

Perform internal Environmental Audits

This position demands a well-organised team player, with strong business awareness. The ideal candidate will help to foster a high-performance, fast-paced working environment.

Skills / Qualifications required:

* Recognised qualification in Engineering or related discipline

* Excellent computer skills. Essential: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

* Ability to manage multiple tasks and consistently meet completion deadlines

* Ability to work both as part of a team and independently

* Willingness to apply extra effort as required to meet project/team goals

* Possess excellent English language skills, written and verbal communication skills
