Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust Consultant in Paediatric Neurology Leeds Children's Hospital, Leeds General Infirmary Closing Date: 17 October 2019 Ref: 298-CON-547 We are looking for an individual to fill this new post within the Paediatric Neurosciences Department at Leeds Children's Hospital, based at Leeds Teaching Hospitals on the Leeds General Infirmary site. The department of paediatric neurosciences provides a comprehensive service to the children of West, East and North Yorkshire together with NE Lincolnshire. Inpatient services are based at the Leeds Children's Hospital within a dedicated paediatric neurosciences unit, where children are jointly cared for by paediatric neurologists and neurosurgeons. Consultants provide outpatient clinics in Leeds and "outreach" clinics within all hospitals in the region as part of the Yorkshire Paediatric Neuroscience Network. Subspecialty clinics are provided in epilepsy including epilepsy surgery, ketogenic diet and TS, neuro-oncology, neuro-rehabilitation, cerebrovascular disease, neuromuscular disease and complex motor disorders, This is a 10 PA appointment. The post-holder will work with the 7 paediatric neurology consultants, our paediatric neurorehabilitation consultant, 4 paediatric neurosurgeons, specialist neurology nurses and therapists to deliver comprehensive paediatric neurology services to the region. This includes supporting the joint paediatric neuroscience care (combined neurology / neurosurgery) delivered on ward L52. The post includes a commitment to the emergency / on call rota for 10 weeks per year. The post-holder will undertake general neurology clinics in Leeds and in some of the surrounding district hospitals, We are looking for dynamic paediatric neurologist with the ability to develop an appropriate subspecialist interest that would fit with the departmental needs, as outlined in the Job Description. Leeds Children's Hospital is one of the largest children's hospitals in the UK; we are integrated with maternity, neonatal and adult services facilitating excellent adolescent and transition services. We provide emergency department and general paediatric services to the 186,000 children and young people of Leeds; our specialist departments provide services to 1.2 million children and young people in Yorkshire and include selected patient groups as far south as Nottingham and north to Scotland. We have an expanding paediatric and adult congenital cardiac service supported by a large paediatric intensive care unit. We undertake liver, renal and stem cell transplantation and have a large specialist surgical unit. All our other specialist services, including the regional neonatal unit, are on site. We have opened a Clinical Research Facility this year and have strong links to the University of Leeds, UK University of the Year 2017. Leeds is the largest city in Yorkshire, a student city with excellent cultural and sporting facilities and close to historic towns such as York and Harrogate. It hosted the Grand Depart of the Tour de France in 2014 and is near to great walking and cycling country. The University is opening a £5 million Brownlee cycling centre in cooperation with the two Olympian triathlon brothers who live in Leeds. Manchester is 30 minutes away, London and Edinburgh 2 hours away by train and the local airport has routes to major European cities. The successful applicant should possess Membership of the Royal College of Paediatric (or equivalent) and should be included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview, currently within a training programme within the UK. They must be able to provide evidence of comprehensive training in paediatric neurology through the UK paediatric neurology grid training scheme or equivalent. In accordance with the consultant appointment regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist Register. In addition to established skills in Paediatric Neurology and its related specialties, skills in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, and a research interest are desirable. Consideration will be given to applicants who wish to work full or part time and those wishing to job share.
