Job Title: Management Accountant

Reporting to: Finance Senior Management

Job Purpose:

To provide information and analysis to aid decision making ensuring a clear monitoring process is in place. Working with appropriate management to assist with budgeting and forecasting for both operating and capital expenditure.
Provide high quality accurate support service to the Department Managers within the HPUK group and ensuring all reporting complies with group reporting procedures.
Research and analyse data to provide recommendations and conclusions to resolve issues and advise the business units of the impacts to their business operations.

Main activities and responsibilities:

To meet HPUK group reporting requirements, ensuring that all reports are complete, reviewed and submitted within reporting deadlines. To ensure the Management Accounting function within their selected business unit(s) operates in a timely, accurate and efficient manner.

To provide financial support and expertise to projects including any operational and technical aspects.

Identifying issues impacting efficiency and effectiveness across HPUK coordinating appropriate analysis and making recommendations for improvement.

To provide specific financial expertise and commercial support across HPUK.

Training and development of the Finance Staff.

Coordinate the compilation, review and monitoring of budgets / forecast for key Operational Divisions within HPUK.

To work directly with members of Senior Management and Executive team contributing to the identification and implementation of initiatives to reduce cost and increase revenue.

Attending meetings with internal and external parties in support of subject experts.

Scope of the role:

As a member of the Finance team, the Management Accountant is directly responsible to Finance Senior Management; The Management Accountant has direct responsibility for other employees.

The Management accountant is expected to be able to work independently with high concentration levels. Also to guide and coordinate the task of any direct reports. The Management Accountant is expected to liaise with internal contacts at all levels across HPUK and external contacts as required and must adhere to stated policies and procedures relating to Health and Safety. This post is not exposed to any health and safety risk other than that in an office environment.

Technical skills:

Passed finalist of professional accounting body - ACCA, ACMA, ACA.
A level or equivalent within English.
Advanced level within Excel.
A financial background with experience in management accounting of at least 4 years.
Excellent planning, analytical, communication and organisational skills within a business finance environment.Demonstrates a clear understanding and appropriate application of all forms of communication. Has the ability to know when to actively listen. Demonstrates a wide sphere of influence via an effective working relationship with all Departments and 3rd parties based on mutual trust and understanding. Demonstrates the ability to influence using these relationships.

Decision Making:

Constantly challenges current processes and tasks to understand the business rationale, check if they are still relevant or suggest other ways of doing them. Ability to quantify the level of information required for effective decisions to be made.

Team Working

Proactively demonstrates a team ethic with the ability to adapt own skills to various team roles.

Demonstrates ability to know when a team approach is required to resolve a particular task. Clearly demonstrates ability to influence and lead teams in completing ad-hoc tasks with minimal intervention from senior management

Demonstrates the ability to analyse information or a situation in detail identifying key or important elements, their strengths and weaknesses and use these to compile a persuasive argument, make recommendations or solve a problem. Actively identifies business improvement opportunities submitting options and recommendations.

Ability to build business relationships with internal and external parties. Uses these relationships to help achieve business objectives. Coordinates development of Finance staff ensuring all training increases the individual's contribution to the business. Uses credibility with stakeholders to influence change.

Business Awareness

Works with colleagues across HPUK to implement changes in the business environment. Uses influence to challenge process to ensure their contribution to the business goals. Clearly uses a strong understanding of commercial factors within any business analysis. Uses these factors as a base for sound business decisions
