A Pupil Referral Unit in Wakefield is seeking an experienced Social Emotional Mental Health Teaching Assistant to start as soon as possible to work until the end of the academic year. The PRU caters for KS3 pupils, accommodating for pupils who are struggling to access the mainstream curriculum and day-to-day life. The students needs vary, and they often have a Special Educational Needs and Disabilities diagnosis. This is role would be to support in the classroom and throughout the day, to assist the children alongside the other teaching assistants and class teacher. This is a wonderful opportunity to work in a progressive school with an ethos of working with the students in a positive and encouraging way to help them achieve to the best of their ability. The successful applicant will have a patient and caring disposition; with the ability quickly build meaningful relationships with students and their staff team.

The role will include:
Support the students both in lesson and during break times
Manage behaviour in line with the schools behaviour policy and positive handling plans
Work proactively with other team members including the class teacher, other teaching assistants, and support staff
Ensure the safeguarding of students at all times

Requirements:
Experience of working with young people with SEMH/SEBD/SEND needs
Be comfortable in managing challenging behaviour
Ability to engage with, and build rapport with young people
Be creative, proactive and flexible in their supporting style
To be able to provide a nurturing and caring connection with the vulnerable student
Team teach trained ideal (opportunity to train with Randstad if not)
