First Move From Practice - Finance Manager Opportunity in Commerce

The phrase 'rare opportunity' is overused by agencies, however this really is one of those roles that offers a perfect first move from a public practice background into a highly commercial position whilst offering support.

Based in Hemel Hempstead, this role will suit an individual who wants to progress into a Financial Controller role and subsequently into the Financial Director post.

If you have a progressive attitude, a commercial mindset and you're seeking new challenges, this could be the ideal role for you.

Initially the position will involve working closely with the incumbent Financial Controller, understanding the business, and assisting with a number of duties including an initial review of processes and procedures. Ultimately taking on staff management and development responsibility as well, you will also need to be able to demonstrate relevant softer skills.

As with all commercially focused positions, key skills that you will have gained within practice will be essential;
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to engage with various stakeholders including non-finance contacts is an absolute must.
  • Management of all day to day financial affairs from transactional level activity through to working with the Auditors to finalise the year-end accounts
  • Assisting with the execution of a fast, accurate month-end, quarter-end and year-end process
  • Balance Sheet Control, owning the numbers and taking the lead over any improvements needed
  • Presentation of monthly management accounts and commentary
  • Cash flow forecasting and reporting
  • On-going review of the effectiveness of financial controls, and the enhancement of the financial reporting capability
  • Overseeing all general ledger activity, accounts payable, accounts receivable and credit control
  • VAT returns, managing external stakeholders. i.e. HMRC, Auditors, banks etc

You should be a qualified or equivalent Accountant from Practice and have strong systems skills and advanced Excel.
