Digital Application Development Manager - Glasgow city centre - £57000-67000 plus 12% bonus

Fantastic opporunity to join an expanding Fortune 500 organisation as their Digital Application Manager responsible for a team developing a number of mission-critical Java based digital applications as well as actively progressing the strategic digital landscape in SalesForce.

The position combines managerial responsibilities, leading and managing several teams with the ability to provide technical guidance, support and direction to a team of application specialists.

We are looking for someone who has worked in an internet facing application development environment and has excellent technical and interpersonal skills.
  • Work with the Head of IT to establish priorities, allocate appropriate resources to ensure that projects within the portfolio are completed within committed time/budget.
  • Technical design authority working in conjunction with the Solutions Architect on solution design.
  • Application analysis/ design, development and implementation planning phases of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) process adhered to
  • Ownership of developer toolset - version control system, code quality tools, build orchestration, build artefact repository, deployment automation.
  • Management of geographically distributed digital application teams.
  • Incident Management Technical Authority, responsible for leading and directing emergency responses teams responding to application production outages ensuring service restoration in the quickest and safest time possible.
  • Release management.
  • Working with the environments team to ensure production and development environments are maintained and fit for purpose.
  • Coach and mentor development team members and review application designs to ensure projects are aligned with company standards and IT strategy. Ensuring all products are built to an appropriate level of quality for the stage.
  • Drive innovation through research and development initiatives

Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, 7+ years hands-on digital development experience with at least 3 yrs. acting as a senior software development or an equivalent role.
  • Proven experience in delivering digital projects and products
  • Proven experience using a range of agile project management methods
  • Proven experience balancing multiple priorities and dealing with ambiguity
  • Excellent understanding of build and release management tools and processes
  • Strong experience in software development including task estimation and resource planning
  • Knowledge of industry standards and code quality ensuring a high standard of output.
  • Knowledge of Java 8, J2EE technologies, Spring, Spring Security, and Hibernate frameworks, JSP, JQuery, JavaScript, Spring MVC, Angular.
  • Understanding of Web-services (SOAP & Rest).
  • Understanding of SQL database design and development, preferably with MS SQL Server
  • Understanding of the SalesForce ecosystem.
  • Experience with change management and defect tracking processes
  • Excellent understanding of business processes, technicalities and priorities.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong leadership and people management skills
  • Organised, with the ability to manage multiple development projects simultaneously
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to quickly grasp the implications of project requirements
