Technical Support Engineer

DATS is recruiting for a Technical Support Engineer to join an independent engineering company based in Greater Manchester, Northwest

Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Salary: £35-40K + overtime ( Est £50K per year potential)
Location: Greater Manchester

What does the job involve?

This role requires all aspects of system hardware & software, including, design, modification, installation, upgrade, maintenance and repair.

Key responsibilities for the role of Technical Support Engineer include:

1. Production of site documentation as necessary.

2. Design of changes to software and/or hardware for modification/rectification work.

3. Working with the Materials Controller to purchase equipment and sub-systems.

4. Ensure compliance with QA procedures, Company procedures and statutory regulations.

5. Regular communication with clients to obtain information and keep clients informed of developments.

6. Scheduling site visits as necessary, liaising with the Technical Support Supervisor.

7. Keep abreast of current technologies, legislation, and standards relevant to business.

8. Supervision of technicians.

9. Management of TSG Projects.

10. Ensure all work performed is in compliance with IEC61508.

11. Design of any changes to be made to systems hardware and/or software to meet customers' requirements.

12. Modifying drawings, software, and associated documentation.

13. Specification and requisitioning of necessary hardware or software items.

14. Writing software, installation, commissioning, testing, wiring, modifying, repairs, and maintenance.

15. Attend Kick-off meetings as required.

16. Provide 24/7 support to customers via the On Call system, on a rota basis.

17. Be available to provide emergency call out support 24/7.

What skills and experience do you need?

Key requirements for the role of Technical Support Engineer are:

1. Preferably qualified to HNC / BTEC electrical or electronics

2. Must have PLC software experience

3. Must have previous experience in a service / commissioning role.

4. Offshore working experience essential and must be willing to participate in offshore medical and training to gain certification

5. AutoCAD, SCADA, HMI networks, and systems design experience would be advantageous

6. Previous experience working in a safety and controls system based environment would be beneficial

7. Fault finding / diagnostic skills

8. Good communication skills

9. Competent with Microsoft - Excel

10. Full Driving License/Passport

This role will require extensive travel / stay away within the UK.

At times it may include trips offshore ( N Sea) . Therefore you must be willing to pass the medical and safety certificates as required for work offshore.

What are the pay and benefits?

£35-40K per annum plus the opportunity for overtime hours
