Reporting to the International Financial Controller, the Business Controller will work with senior members of the Finance team and act as a business partner to the Development teams and the wider business. You will ensure that the Group's development projects are controlled and reported on efficiently and in a timely manner.

The Group's operating companies include the UK, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Panama, Chile, Mexico, Ghana and Kenya and the Group SPV's are in Europe and Latin America. Further expansion in Europe, Latin America and Africa is envisaged as part of the current 5-year business plan.

Key activities and responsibilities:
  • Controlling day to day development financial transactions, including banking, accounts receivable and payable functions
  • With the support of the Management Accountants based in London, Spain, Panama and local finance/admin support where appropriate, the Development Controller will assume full responsibility for the monthly reporting of the P&L and Balance Sheet from a development perspective, ensuring compliance with Group processes alongside local statutory and fiscal requirements
  • Working closely as a business partner with the development team, including interpreting and communicating financial data to non-financial managers
  • Owns all development aspects of annual financial reporting, drive the annual budgeting and monthly forecasting processes with local and/or head office management for all relevant entities, including validating monthly forecasts for the relevant entities
  • On an interim basis the Development Controller will assist with the development of the Group's Asset Management function
  • Manage short/medium term cash-flow forecasting for the relevant entities to ensure adequate liquidity in each business on a day to day basis
  • Assist with the annual audit process including the preparation of all relevant audit and tax information and liaising with the Group auditors
  • Support both local and central operational staff in driving the growth of the overseas business as requested, provide support with the due diligence process for the project SPV's
  • Directly and/or with the use of local accountants/lawyers' investigation of accounting and tax issues for potential new entities and subsequent set up where applicable

Qualifications and experience:
  • Qualified accountant (ICAEW/CIMA/ACCA or equivalent)
  • At least 4-5 years' experience working within commerce/industry, most recently at a Controller level or senior business partnering role.
  • Experience within a construction and/or development environment desirable, including practical knowledge of IFRS 15.
  • Previous experience of a multinational business strongly desirable. Ability to deal with multiple companies and multiple currency experience, preferably from an SPV background
  • Strong communication skills, ability to negotiate and build relationships across the wider business
  • Self-starter, flexible, proactive and self-motivated with excellent organisational skills
  • Team player, ability to work independently, under pressure and to meet tight reporting deadlines
  • Experience of working with the Navision accounting system is desirable
  • Spanish or French speaker desirable.
