Acorn is recruiting on behalf of a client, a market leading manufacturing company based in Newport that require an experienced and dynamic Engineering Manager to join its expanding team.

As a member of the Senior Management Team, this role contributes significantly to the overall leadership of site and reports to the Plant Manager.

The successful candidate will have responsibility for all areas of the engineering function, striving for best in class business process to deliver to organizational expectations. The Engineering Manager will also be responsible for driving key performance indicators across all areas of the engineering function and to ensure that all projects are delivered on cost and on time to the highest quality standards.

Duties and responsibilities:

- Overall responsibility for Engineering activities across the business.
- Creating and implementing best practice, strategy and processes to aid and improving
business performance.
- Planning and prioritising processes to ensure that multi-disciplinary resource is
well aligned to maximise delivery of projects.
- Submission of annual repair and maintenance budget requirements.
- Reporting on engineering activities on a regular basis to the Plant Manager and
senior management team, ensuring accurate and timely reporting of the relevant key
performance indicators.
- Supporting and undertaking continuous improvement projects to improve both the
efficiency and quality of manufacture.
- Setting departmental objectives and monitor ongoing progress and performance.
- Ensuring strong communication between departments / teams to be able to fully
implement change and support improvements.
- Establishing strategy and best practices for staff to ensure achievement of overall
business objectives.
- Responsibility for engineering budget.
- Identifying and liaising with suitable suppliers, produce CAPEX budgets and business
cases, produce requirement specifications, negotiate new machinery purchases and
introducing them effectively.
- Providing leadership for process improvement and project initiatives by prioritizing
assignments and allocation of resources accordingly.
- Developing and promoting succession planning and relevant training for employees
within the engineering function; Carry out appraisals of appropriate staff members.
- Managing all abatement equipment to ensure legal compliance.

The ideal candidate:

- Minimum of 5 years previous engineering management experience.
- Degree qualification in an engineering discipline.
- Knowledge and experience of Lean Six Sigma practice.
- A thorough knowledge of IT systems.
- Able to demonstrate leading an engineering function with a proven track record in
strategic engineering leadership and achievement.
- Significant experience of incorporating EHS into the engineering controls.
- Previous experience of managing risk assessments in the workplace.
- Engineering budget management and resource balancing experience.
- Broad understanding of a wide range of technical disciplines.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and influencing skills.
- A motivational team player leading from the front.
- Flexible and adaptable to meet demanding business needs.
- Proactive, problem solver.
- Strong work ethic with an ability to deliver.
- A hands-on individual able to lead by example.


- £60K - £65K however, this will be dependent on skills and experience.
- 25 days + 8 Bank Holidays.
- Defined Pension Contribution (5% by either party) + 4 x Life Assurance.
