Job purpose
To provide comprehensive professional support to lawyers in Legal Services in relation to legal case matters (for example; coordination of cases in case management system, audio digital typing, electronic filing and administering the Legal Helpline).
Additionally, to provide support to other strands of the Assurance Service when required.
Accountabilities
To provide professional support to lawyers to ensure the efficient running of legal matters.
To maintain confidentiality of information acquired in the course of undertaking duties for the Service.
To be responsible for your own continuing self-development, undertaking training as appropriate.
To undertake digital and copy typing/word processing and the use of other computer applications.
Provide cover during the absence of other Business Support Team members as required.
To arrange meetings/telephone conferences and maintain fee earners and own diaries.
To liaise with private firms of solicitors.
To liaise with internal clients.
To operate Legal Helpline redirecting calls appropriately as well as dealing with other telephone/email/face-to-face enquiries and message taking as required when staff are not available.
To provide general information and respond to general queries on behalf of the teams where appropriate.
To maintain accurate electronic files and updating of records including the case management system.

Knowledge, skills & experience
Recent typing and audio/digital typing experience, including in the secretarial field
Proven substantial experience of providing professional support within a legal or similar environment.
A Levels or NVQ3 in a legal subject or ILEX, Secretarial Diploma or equivalent qualification.
Problem solving and analytical skills
Flexible but methodical approach to work
Minimum RSA II, or equivalent typewriting or word processing
GCSE grade C or above in English or equivalent qualification
Excellent communication skills
Excellent organisational skills and ability to prioritise work effectively
Ability to work under pressure whilst maintaining high levels of accuracy
Ability to work on own initiative or as part of a large team
Ability to maintain confidentiality and able to deal with contentious issues in an appropriate manner
