I am currently recruiting for innovative market leader within the Electrical design sector. This is a fantastic opportunity for a degree qualified, team player to take lead as Design and Engineering Manager to join their SMT.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to be at the helm of a company that has over 25 years of experience, and will be working with products that play a large part in global markets such as medical electronics, sensor systems, aerospace/drone/automotive technology, and sustainable product development for a multitude of sectors.

Significant exposure to Electro-mechanical engineering and manufacturing experience is required in order to develop and drive a small global engineering team, with responsibility to deliver innovative, cost-effective and high quality electronic products to the market.

The candidate will need to demonstrate a great understanding of high-quality electronic manufacturing methods at low and high volumes, must have an electronic design background, and be able to provide evidence of strong team management and objective delivery.

The ability to think both strategically and tactically whilst motivating and developing a geographically-split team would be strongly advantageous.

Key Responsibilities Include :
  • Management of the design and engineering team that encompasses s/w, h/w, electro-mechanical design and manufacturing engineering, located across the UK and offshore production facilities
  • Management and delivery of tactical day-to-day actions within a positive working environment for the global team, and provide technical support and direction to the team
  • Provide support, guidance and training to ensure the continued growth of capability and knowledge both team and company-wide
  • Provide strategic support and ideas focused on an efficient and disciplined NPI process, including driven plans, to the CEO that are in-line with the Company flexible electronics growth strategy
  • Develop strategies and design models to create guidelines for product design
  • Drive the development of new and improved manufacturing capabilities, and play a key part in the development of first-class production processes for flexible electronics, with a focus on future innovation and effective application
  • Ensure cost focus is inherent within the team activities and deliver management metrics to support this
  • Ensure designs comply with all appropriate customer and regulatory requirements
  • Ensure the highest levels of quality and productivity are maintained within the team and department
  • Resource management and conflict management within a project management philosophy
  • Essential Criteria:
  • Engineering qualification. Preferably degree qualified in an electronic engineering discipline
  • A minimum of 5 years at Design or Manufacturing management level with experience of being the design authority for in-house engineered products
  • Strategic mind-set and application experience, with a pragmatic attitude
  • Good working knowledge of project management principles, best practice design lifecycle, gated design phases etc.
  • Demonstrable commercial awareness in cost management and control
  • Willingness to share practical project requirements at design and engineering level
  • Effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills and an empathy to multi-cultural paradigms
