Join our team

Our team has an exciting opportunity for you to join our Ancillary Plant Section as part of our ISIS Accelerator Division as a Mechanical Support Technician. We specialise and support a national and international community of more than 3,000 scientists for research into various subjects such as clean energy, materials engineering and more. More specifically we provide support for much of the equipment associated with the smooth running of ISIS.

We are a small team and looking for someone to join us who is highly motivated with a mechanical aptitude and wants to be a part of a specialist work force.

About The Role

You will report to the Ancillary Plant Maintenance Manager within the Accelerator Engineering Group and part of your role will be to provide support for much of the equipment associated with the smooth running of ISIS.

Other responsibilities will include:
  • Maintaining of complex ancillary plant systems both planned and reactive
  • Maintaining ancillary equipment ensuring we adhere to health and safety standards.
  • Working on the refrigeration system
  • Installing pipework where necessary.

This is very much a hands-on role and is key to providing support across the plant to ensure that we are providing the best services possible.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you've completed a Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship (or have equivalent experience), have previous experience in ancillary plant systems and installing pipe work. You will also need to be able to operate a variety of hand tools, and have good problem-solving skills with a can do approach to your work.

It is not essential, but a City and Guilds, NVQ or BTEC qualification and experience in refrigeration would be beneficial.

An exceptional index linked pension scheme, 30 days leave allowance and flexible working are offered, as well as an onsite nursery, subsidised restaurant, gym and sports facilities. A relocation allowance may also be available where applicable.

Full details of offered benefits can be found on STFC's careers pages.
