Job description:

Darent Valley Hospital are a part of one of the largest hospital trusts in North Kent, with services at five hospital sites serving a local population of over 500,000 people. The vision is to be an outstanding hospital Trust providing the best possible care for patients that is safe, well-coordinated, in the right place and designed around the patient's needs.

Serco provide back office support services for Darent Valley Hospital which include a variety of Soft and Hard FM Services including Catering, Cleaning, Maintenance and Portering. We are looking to recruit for a Mechanical Engineering Manager at the hospital on full time basis working 40 hours per week across 5 days out of 7.

The Engineering Manager (Mechanical) will support the Head of Estates to ensure that the hospital building, fabric, plant, services and equipment are maintained to a high standard to ensure continued efficiency, safety and reliability and to safeguard the future long term serviceability of the estate as contractually required by Serco, THC, and the Dartford and Gravesham Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Key Responsibilities:

    Management of allocated specialist service contracts as to ensure Serco's statutory, mandatory and contractual obligations are met.
    Management of the allocated specialist location annual planned preventative maintenance schedule for all engineering services detailing all tasks to be undertaken ensuring that all statutory, mandatory, contractual obligations are met, and high standards of workmanship are achieved.
    Implement and comply with procedures as detailed in the companies Quality Assurance & Health & Safety Policies.
    Prepare and review maintenance procedures for plant and equipment, ensuring high standards and minimising unavailability.
    Participates in the preparation of the Annual Programme identifying plant/services which may compromise service delivery.
    Preparation of specifications and management of the delivery of minor new works and updating of record drawings.
    Prepares specifications for maintenance and equipment/plant replacement as identified in the annual programme
    Assist in the development and testing of contingency plans for electrical services with Head of Estates.
    Technical and managerial support in the delivery of capital schemes pre and post design evaluation, on site supervision of elements of capital schemes
    Deputise for Head of Estates and represents Estates department when required
    Liaison with Electrical Engineering Manager, and other Services Manager
    Authorised/Responsible Person Water HTM 04 Water and/or Fire safety systems and/or HTM 03 Ventilation and Air-conditioning for healthcare premises
    Member of fire team
    Participate in Estates On-Call Services.
    Provision of monthly data to senior management team

    Essential Skills and Experience:

      Must be mechanically qualified preferably serving time in a hospital environment.
      Must have held AP duties for water and ventilation previously in a hospital environment.
      Must have demonstrable knowledge of typical mechanical systems found within a hospital environment including sterilizers and washers
      Must have knowledge and understanding of CAFM systems
      Knowledge of financial reporting desired
      Must be able to write technical reports
      Basic IT skills required
