  • Bracknell Berkshire

  • The Network Specialist plays a central role in shaping major deals and is viewed as the most credible network expert on the selling team.
  • The Network Architect participates from the sales cycle through to the transition and deployment of solutions.
  • The activities and responsibilities of the Network Architect will vary according to the project, but will generally include many of the following:
  • Responsible for architectural, technical design, project management and implementation of network services.
  • Communicate the technical design requirements, constraints and functionality both verbally and in formal documentation to both Customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Review and resolve technical issues in assessment, technical design and implementation.
  • Perform project scoping and SOW development for new services.
  • Liaise and lead internal, multi-national project teams to deliver internal and customer solutions.
Create and maintain supporting documentation for delivered solutions. Provide training, detailed handover documentation and 3rd line support for the Network elements to ensure smooth transition of new implementation into the operational environment.
Experience Required
  • Over 15 years experience of the design, commissioning and troubleshooting of Network solutions.
  • Demonstrable experience of client network solutions, successfully delivered and profitable through national network suppliers.
  • Extensive client facing experience, with business development success.
  • Experience of planning, co-ordination and delivery of technical infrastructure. Predominatly TCP/IP based.
  • Wide ranging hands-on practical technical experience of:
  • Troubleshooting network performance / fault analysis
  • Use of Wireshark and other tools for capturing and analysing a wide range of network protocols
  • Network performance and capacity management tools
  • Developing network operational processes
  • Network security (firewalls) and VPN technologies

  • Thorough knowledge of wide range of network technologies and Infrastructure architecture.
  • MPLS connectivity
  • ADSL
  • Wireless routers
  • Expert knowledge of a range of Cisco devices used for routing and switching.
  • Design and specify required configuraion parameters for solutions
  • Review and interpret Cisco Configurations to confirm requirements forsolution are met.
  • Utilise the range of Cisco commands to analyse operational parameters, confirm correct operation and troubleshoot problems
  • Expert knowledge of the TCP/IP Network protocols.
  • Expert knowledge of IPV4 i.e. TCP handshake, Window mechanism,Well- known tcp ports etc.
  • IP addressing and subnet masks
  • Expert knowldege of trace utilities across a range of Operating systems i.e.
    Wireshark, TCPdump, Cisco Debug
  • Awareness IPV6
Good knowledge of Solaris, Linux and Windows operating systems, with indepth knowledge of commands to:
  • analyse IP parameters assigned to interfaces
  • IP routing table information
  • tracing commands to confirm routing
  • Expert knowledge of designing High Availability DMZ to interface customer networks to internal Firewall infrastructure.
  • IP addressing
  • Use of NAT if required
  • Automatic failover principles and protocols
  • Creation of test plans to confirm correct operation
  • Ability to influence third party suppliers to ensure the delivered solution meets the requirements within timescales and budget
Expert knowledge of VPN technologies, Cisco, F5, Palo Alto, Firewall & AWS based
  • Peering IP addresses
  • Encryption domains
  • Encryption protocols
Good Knowledge of Amazon Web Services
  • Experience of cloud technolgies in general
  • Emphasis on the Networking elements, VPN, Direct Connect, VPC, Route 53, Security Groups, VPG, Network ACLs, Routing Tables, etc.
  • Awareness of PCI DSS standards
  • Awareness of strict Change Control processes
  • Experience of the following tools
  • JIRA
  • Confluence
  • Strong technical abilities to configure, install and troubleshoot a wide range of network and server hardware.
  • Pragmatic approach to solving solutions and can prioritise technical workload to meet clients business needs and adapt to changes in those needs.
  • Ability to work in isolation or as part of a team to deliver end to end solutions.
  • Enthusiastic approach to learning new skills and meeting challenges.
