Brewster Partners: Charity & Not For Profit are working with a Methodist Church in Doncaster to recruit a Community Outreach Worker develop the Church's outreach programmes within Doncaster this is an exciting new role and will work closely with the General Manger to embark on a period of change for the historical church.

The Role

The main purpose of this role is to increase the congregation and use of Priory Place Methodist Church by encouraging the local community to use the building for themselves and project a sense of ownership by attending services of worship and attending support groups for marginalised people.

Key responsibilities for this role include:
  • To co-ordinate, lead and develop the 11am Sunday service so that it becomes ever more culturally relevant, is accessible to those unfamiliar with 'church' and provides spiritual depth for more mature attendees.
  • To ensure that new attendees to services are made welcome and receive the offer of appropriate individual pastoral contact
  • To refresh and maintain an effective system of pastoral care for both established and newer members of the 11am congregation, paying particular focus to those on the edge
  • To develop and co-ordinate midweek groups/ activities which act as accessible entry routes to the café service. This will include review and potential modification or ending of existing activities and establishing new culturally relevant activities
  • To be a visible presence and representative of the Church, in particular at times when the town centre in which the church is strategically located is busy (such as Saturdays and school holidays)
  • To effectively promote, advertise and communicate the Church and its programmes,
  • Assist the Community Outreach Worker in identifying and pursuing appropriate personal development and training

The Person

This is new role that offers flexibility on a part time basis, te successful candidate will make the role their own and have significant input into the development of the building.

To succeed in this role you will demonstrate experience of initiating and developing innovative outreach and evangelism projects in a community based capacity. You will have coordinated teams of volunteers previously and as a natural relationship builder, build supportive nurturing relationships with diverse groups of people.

You will have a track record of active involvement in planning and leading worship in an informal contemporary context, and the awareness of and the ability to work with diversity including theological difference.
