Senior Commercial Financial Analyst
Paying £50,000 - £60,000 + Bonus and benefits

Investigo are delighted to be partnering with the Finance team at Drax, the FTSE Energy Company. Their retail division, Drax Customers, is going through an exciting period of change and transformation. We are working with Drax Customers to create a high-performing finance team based in their modern Northampton office.

The purpose of this position is to provide financial expertise and analysis to support delivery of the business plans and the development of business's strategy and financial plans for growth.

Reporting to the Head of Commercial Finance, Opus; works in matrix with FPA and accounting teams to deliver financial results and insightful analysis

Key Accountabilities:
  • Provide advice and analysis to the business to support the most effective, efficient and economic use of its financial resources
  • Act as a liaison point for financial matters, and interface with business managers as necessary
  • Analysis and interpretation of results, simplifying complexity to enable management to understand risks and opportunities and areas of under/ over performance.
  • Provide an advanced level of financial support and analysis, as appropriate, for customer bids, product development, supplier tenders and investments.
  • Identify and provide analysis to inform action, including; activity, expenditure, trends, bench-marking and variations to planned levels
  • Provide analysis for contract negotiations and new products/ services as appropriate
  • Provide financial analysis and support for business change initiatives, supporting the business in developing appropriate assumptions and identifying key sensitivities
  • Support the on-going financial planning processes across the business, working with business managers to identify appropriate business drivers.
  • Work with the Accounting & FPA teams to ensure delivery of insightful and timely analysis on financial performance, risks and opportunities.
  • Develop successful working relationships across the business and wider finance team, which promote trust and confidence in the ability of the finance department to provide high quality information and analysis
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the finance team to ensure consistency of process and approach on all financial matters.
  • Line management of a small team of analysts
  • Engage across the broader Customers and Drax finance teams as part of the Drax Finance Transformation

Knowledge, Skills and Experience required:
  • Qualified Accountant - CIMA/ACCA/ACA preferred, with likely 1-3 PQE.
  • Experience in a commercial role in a PLC environment. Previous experience in the energy sector an advantage.
  • Commercial awareness - Understands and applies financial and commercial principles. Views issues in terms of costs, profits, markets and added value.
  • Problem solving and analysis - Analyses issues and breaks them down into their component parts. Makes systematic and rational judgements based on relevant information.
  • Creativity and innovation - Creates new and imaginative approaches to work-related issues. Identifies fresh approaches and shows a willingness to question traditional assumptions.
  • Oral communication - Speaks clearly, fluently and in a compelling manner to both individuals and groups.
  • Persuasiveness - Influences, convinces or impresses others in a way that results in acceptance, agreement or behaviour change.
  • Personal motivation - Commits self to work hard towards goals. Shows enthusiasm and career commitment. Self-starter and willing/able to drive and manage own workload.
  • Microsoft Excel - Advanced. Technical knowledge required, knowledge of macros would be an advantage.
