Struggling to find the right balance of interesting, challenging work that also offers a good work-life balance?

Let's face it, it's rare to find an opportunity that offers both the ability to utilise your full range of electrical, mechanical and software/PLC knowledge and doesn't have you working a 4-on-4-off or Panama shift pattern.

You're also bored of working on ageing equipment that hasn't been upgraded in donkey's years. The training and career development you were promised at your interview hasn't yet materialised.

Check, check and check?

In which case, we're looking to bring on a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer to join TGW's team at our client's site, based in Kempston, Bedfordshire. This is a fully automated site for our client's clothing business, utilising the latest automated hanging garment system (Dürkopp).

You'll join our team of six Engineers who are responsible for servicing, maintenance and continuous improvement of the automated solution. Your training over the first couple of months will see you expand your knowledge on the whole solution, including PLCs and PPM systems.

In addition, having gone recently live with a new extension to the automated hanging garment solution, there is a great opportunity to be heavily involved with the continuous improvement activities. You'll, therefore, work closely with TGW's own teams, the client's operational teams, and 3rd parties.

Your typical shift will include:
  • Maintaining, servicing and improving the automated hanging garment system (Dürkopp) along with other automated equipment.
  • Utilising your electrical, mechanical and software skills on every shift, whether it's replacing a transfer conveyor gate, re-wiring a 3-phase motor or fault-finding on the control panels or PLC (Beckhoff).
  • Liaising with Sainsbury's own operational teams during your shift, ensuring they're kept updated on any PPM work or during breakdowns.

The shift pattern will see you work a 6 week cycles - 4 weeks will cover early (6:30am-2:30pm) and late shifts (2:30pm-10:30pm) Sunday-Thursday & Monday-Friday, 1 week will cover days (10am-6pm) and the final week will cover nights (10:30pm-6:30am).

About you:

In terms of experience, you'll be an experienced Multi-Skilled Engineer (preferably with an Electrical bias) who has previous experience with automated materials handling equipment (conveyors, robotics, automated storage & retrieval, etc.).

As you'll be working on our customer's site, you'll have excellent communication and time management skills.
