Contract FPGA Design engineer

Southampton, Hampshire Rate TBC

Duration - up to 3 months (potential follow up work)

Location - Southampton but also remote work is possible

This FPGA design engineer project requires a strong background in FPGA and VHDL design and will involve the implementation of algorithms for a sophisticated and innovative sensor system.

The company is a small start-up organisation. Their products have been getting a lot of interest and they are at the stage of commercialising but there is more development work to go.

Skills / Knowledge required:

* Ideally a degree or higher in a relevant subject (e.g. electronics engineering, computer science, physics etc)

* Strong proven experience of FPGA design using VHDL firmware (development, simulation and test of VHDL code)

* Good background in DSP / signal processing (perhaps from Radar, Acoustics, Sonar, Image Processing etc)

* Knowledge of developing VHDL for Xilinx Virtex 6 FPGA devices and using Xilinx toolsets would be an advantage, although Altera experience is fine

* Knowledge of TMS320xxx or similar DSP devices would be an advantage

* A background in embedded C programming would be useful

* Ability to develop algorithms (use of Matlab) may be handy but is by no means essential

* Knowledge of acoustic sensing systems would be a great advantage

* Experience of working in a technology start-up would be useful

The first version of VHDL firmware already exists. This role would involve developing and implementation in firmware of an existing demodulation algorithm.

This FPGA design contract is located in the Southampton area. It is commutable from Eastleigh, Fareham, Hedge End, Segensworth, Whiteley, Hamble and Gosport, however remote working is also possible
