Cloud Automation Engineer

Salary: Up to £60,000 + car allowance + benefits + 3% Flex

Location: Salisbury, Wiltshire

Role overview

This is a fantastic opportunity to come on board one of Sopra Steria's defence secure customer sites and develop and maintain automation, including VMware Orchestrator workflows and blueprints delivering self-service cloud services via a VMware vRealize Automation web portal. Automation may be customer facing for cloud users or for internal use for IT service delivery.

Key responsibilities

  • Ensure creation of web-based user guides to make services accessible to users and minimise service desk calls and work with architects to produce technical documentation.
  • Working with end users and architects advising on best practice for using private cloud to solve problems and translating requirements into designs for automated processes.
  • Continuous improvement of support processes, using automation where possible to deliver service efficiently.
  • Work closely with end users who, in many cases, are using agile software development and DevOps processes to understand their requirements and workflows and recommend ways to improve efficiency. For this, good customer and communication skills are a must

Essential skills

  • Knowledge of SQL databases as a developer.
  • A high level of competence with VMware vCenter (ideally vCP qualified).
  • Thorough understanding of network and storage infrastructure.
  • Software development experience, at a minimum developing automation using javascript, Unix shell scripts or powercli.
  • A structured approach to solving complex technical problems.
  • Good communication skills and customer focus.
  • The range of technologies used in delivering the service will evolve so the candidate must be comfortable with constant change and keen to keep their skills up-to-date.

  • Current DV Clearance
  • Similar experience in the Defence sector
