Job Description
Reporting to the Senior Project Manager (Offshore Design Services) this role is responsible for managing the interfaces between the UK based and Offshore signalling design engineering teams. The successful candidate will ensure that the offshore signalling design engineering work packages required to deliver the Siemens Rail Automation UK portfolio are carried out in the budgeted time and to the appropriate level of quality, ensuring that Engineering Safety Risk is managed effectively throughout the offshore design phases of the projects.

What are my responsibilities?

  • Manage the portfolio of offshore design work-packages across a number of projects and regional offices through allocation of engineering resources to work packages
  • Direct and manage the preparation of signalling designs, estimates and working drawings for signalling works to ensure these are delivered to time, quality, and cost parameters
  • Provide support and input to the Project and Engineering Management with the Senior Project Manager for Offshore Design Services
  • Preparing and update work activity plans for offshore design resources to maximize resource utilisation/efficiency
  • Implementation of company engineering standards and processes as determined by the Business Management System (BMS)
  • Work with the Head of Engineering (HoE) and SRA UK regional Lead Design Managers to achieve efficiencies in the application design lifecycle
  • Promote engineering excellence and consistent design practices and the adoption of new design tools and methods of working
  • Prepare and maintain resource schedules to identify resource requirements to meet short and medium term work bank
  • Conduct performance appraisal of key staff and manage their performance
  • Manage and promote the development of capability of offshore design services
  • Ensure Offshore Design Staff have the appropriate IRSE licenses and Safety Certification


What do I need to qualify for this job?

  • Experience of managing large multi-disciplinary and/or multi-national design teams (essential)
  • Established status within the signalling industry; will have significant experience of design engineering implementation on large signalling schemes in the UK (essential)
  • Previous experience in Project Engineering or Design of safety critical or safety related real-time systems, test and installation environments (essential)
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the cultural differences in diverse offshore locations and an ability to translate that into the way that the role is delivered (essential)
  • Understanding of the detailed requirements placed on the offshore design office and the capabilities of those offices (essential)
  • A broad base of Engineering skills to take responsibility for facilitating cross-disciplinary engineering activity in complex, innovative and commercially challenging environments (essential)
  • IRSE Design Licence (essential)
  • Willingness to travel internationally on a regular basis (essential)
  • Must be willing to fill gaps in own knowledge and experience, taking a pro-active approach to learning, and seeking information from within and outside the company (essential)
  • Safety culture aware - to be able to influence and develop an existing safety culture to latest generation thinking and practice (essential)
