A through-age School in Knaresborough, catering for students with social, emotional and mental health needs are actively looking for a Behaviour Support Worker to start with them in September. The school works with students between 7 and 16, and seeks to support their educational goals, whilst also helping them cope with their emotional and behavioural needs. The role of the successful behaviour support worker will be to assist the class teacher with the lessons, keeping the students engaged and motivated. Due to the students sensitive background and needs, the successful applicant will have experience working with vulnerable children or adults and be confident de-escalating children in emotional and behavioural crisis. This is a long term role on supply with the school, and there is the possibility of the role becoming permanent.

Your role will include:
Establishing constructive relationships with students
Following the positive handling plans for each individual child
Support class teacher and other BSWs to maintain a positive working environment
Develop a clear understanding of the specific needs of each pupil
Looking after children's physical, emotional and social welfare
Recognising signs of distress in children, offering reassurance and de-escalating the situation to best of your ability
To maintain a record and provide regular feedback about pupils to the teachers and/or SENCO in order to best track pupil progress
Assist the school in communicating with parent and carers using appropriate approach
To support all learners in their curriculum studies and throughout the day

Key skills and experience needed:
Excellent communications and interpersonal skills
Commitment to and passion for working with vulnerable children
Experience working in SEND setting
KS2/KS3/KS4 curriculum experience is ideal
Experience working or volunteering with children
The ability to manage confrontation and challenging behaviour
Able to work with learners with various learning difficulties
Flexibility in approach to educating and supporting children
Team teach certification ideal
Experience as a SEN teaching assistant or BSW ideal
