Stobart Group have an exciting opportunity for a Trainee Accountant to join their growing team in Widnes.

Hours: 40 hours per week

Trainee Accountant - What's the role?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a professional, friendly and hard-working Group Trainee Accountant. This varied role is an opportunity to take ownership of important functions within the Group Finance team of Stobart Group. Although based primarily in Widnes there will be some UK travel due to the divisionalised nature of the Group.

The successful candidate will need to be versatile as the demands of the role may change with on-going projects at short notice and other developments in the Group.

Within Group Finance, part of this role is the liaison with the divisional finance functions (and others) to coordinate and gather information and communicate with them. This will require a positive proactive approach and to form a good working relationship with Group and divisional staff especially finance staff.

An opportunity for the appropriate candidate to study for an accounting qualification (such as CIMA) part supported by the Group. This would also require a time commitment by the candidate and to fit in around work commitments.

Trainee Accountant - What will I be responsible for?

Monthly management accounts

- You will be responsible for all aspects of the ledgers of the listed parent company including double entry bookkeeping, reconciliation of ledgers and variance analysis, weekly cash book postings and quarterly VAT returns

- Report results in line with Group reporting deadlines

Consolidated flash reporting

- Consolidate submissions received from the divisional operating companies to produce a consolidated set of first look 'flash' results with commentary for the Board

Weekly cash reporting

- Produce accurately a cash forecast each week including an analysis of movements week-on-week and variances to budget

Budget and forecasts

- Produce an annual budget and twice-yearly reforecasts alongside monitoring the outturn for the year

Interims and year end reporting

- Play an active role in assisting the Group Finance department with external financial reporting requirements including working with the auditors.

- Complete stat packs for Group reporting

Related party reporting

- Request related party information from divisions on a quarterly basis to produce a consolidated schedule of related party balances for the Group

Tax compliance

- Support with iXBRL tagging of statutory accounts for companies across the Group. Complete tax packs for our external tax advisors

Statutory accounts

- Produce statutory accounts for Guernsey registered parent company

Project work

- Provide support for other ad hoc financial, compliance or commercial work, which will vary in nature and time according to requirements
