Your New role

The Council are seeking to recruit an additional member of staff as a Mechanic / Customer Assistant to work primarily from the Cycle Hub Thurrock in Tilbury Town, to assist the Senior Mechanic / Hub Manager within the Cycle Hubs elements of the programme across South Essex. As a Cycle Mechanic / Customer Assistant , your duties will include all aspects of working within a cycle shop environment like repairing bicycles, servicing, diagnosing bicycle fault s for customers and recycling old bicycles. You will also be required to sell cycles and parts to members of the public as well as giving them information about using and owning a bicycle and other sustainable and active travel options. This position is to mainly work on Saturdays in a fixed term contract basis until 31/03/20.

What you'll need to succeed

To be successful in this role, excellent customer service skills are essential as you will need to build relationships quickly with customers and the general public. You will need a team player attitude and flexibility at times to fit within this busy and flowing environment which is the whole ethos of the ForwardMotion project. You will have the opportunity to work alongside knowledgeable cycle staff within the Cycle Hub element of the project. Mechanical knowledge is essential for this role and cytech level 2 training would be advantageous. You will be based at the Tilbury Cycle Hub but will also be required to work from the Mobile Cycle Hub as and when required.
