Team Overview

This is an exciting time to join Ofcom. We're delivering vital work to help shape the communications services of today and tomorrow - from helping the UK be a world leader in 5G mobile, to driving investment in ultrafast broadband and maintaining content standards in the digital age.

Team Overview

Ofcom's duties and responsibilities are heavily influenced by European and international policy and legislative developments, as well as technological and commercial developments in the sectors we regulate, all of which determine and inform what we do and how we do it. In addition, our ability to secure outcomes for consumers increasingly requires that we co-ordinate with other countries and influence different actors internationally. Ofcom therefore dedicates significant resources to international engagement.

Purpose of the Role

This role will involve supporting the international team's work related to telecom, including:

- Helping to ensure Ofcom contributes to the development of telecom policy at European and international levels
- Providing strategic international context to Ofcom's own policy work
- Supporting Ofcom's international engagement programme

You will also be expected to contribute to Ofcom's other international work and support the International Team's wider strategic engagement activities, working closely with colleagues both internally and externally.

Requirements of the Role

You will be required to:

- Engage with relevant EU and international networks (BEREC, IRG), NRAs, the European Commission, other European bodies and international fora
- Act as point of contact for telecom regulators from our main European networks, and take responsibility for liaising with international counterparts
- Monitor international policy developments, particularly in telecoms, developing an awareness and understanding of international telecom policy issues in order to proactively contribute to Ofcom's projects and to effectively promote Ofcom's reputation internationally
- Communicate and explain our regulatory approach to international peers
- Work closely with Ofcom policy teams on the development of UK policy and regulation
- Co-ordinate and attend incoming visits by international counterparts, draft relevant briefings and subsequent notes
- Provide support for Ofcom senior executives, including the Chief Executive, in relation to stakeholder engagements and international visits, including supporting the organisation of outward international visits and preparing briefings in support
- Attend and report back on various international events
- Support other areas of the International Team's activities, where appropriate

Skills, knowledge and experience:

- Excellent communications skills (written and oral) and demonstrable ability to collaborate with and seek contributions from colleagues in other teams
- A self-starter who can take responsibility for managing own workload and contribute effectively to the work of a team
- Comfortable communicating with people at all levels, including senior executives, CEOs and government officials
- Excellent organisational skills
- Excellent research and analytical skills
- Degree level or equivalent

In addition, the following would be desirable:

- Knowledge of EU institutions
- Foreign language skills
- An interest in, and basic understanding of, Ofcom's domestic telecom policy and enforcement framework
- Willingness to travel
