Enable Futures are operating as an employment business on behalf of its client who are recruiting for a permanent Paralegal ( Mental Health / Court of Protection Law) based in Taunton.

The working hours are 9.00am-5.00pm Monday to Friday. The annual salary is £18,000 - £25,000PA.

*Closing date is 16th October 2019*

General casework and administrative assistance in mental health law and Court of Protection cases as directed
Meeting clients in hospital, in the office or in other agreed locations in order to take instructions and provide advice
Liaising with family members, mental health professionals, and professional witnesses as required in order to further a client's case
Reviewing medical notes
Instructing counsel, agents and expert witnesses
Drafting correspondence
Drafting legal aid applications
Preparation of witness statements, affidavits, and other pleadings
Preparation of bundles for tribunal and court proceedings
Attending conferences with counsel
Attending court hearings to provide support to counsel
Carrying out any reasonable tasks which assist with the day-to-day running of the Court of Protection and mental health departments, for example liaising with other staff re allocation of work, attending diary meetings and attending departmental meetings.
Carrying out any reasonable tasks which assist with the day-to-day running of the office
Otherwise undertake all other aspects of mental health and mental capacity law case work as directed

In accordance with Legal Aid Agency billing regulations and guidance
To the best of your ability

With a professional, pleasant and courteous manner
When required, to achieve agreed levels of billing and time recording
To take responsibility for managing your CPD requirements
To develop and maintain and high level of knowledge of Court of Protection and mental health law, practice and procedure
To immediately advise a caseworker or case supervisor if you believe a piece of work is outside your capability or capacity
Only to carry out work that has been agreed by the accredited caseworker(s) and/or supervisors to be within your capability or capacity
To maintain a full UK driving license

Law Degree or LPC
Previously worked as a Paralegal
Keen interest in Mental Health and / or Court of Protection Law
