It's an exciting time to join, as in 2017 CAF celebrated its 100th year, and announced plans to build a new state-of-the art assembly hub in Newport. The new assembly hub is being designed to build a range of different trains, including diesel multiple units (DMUs), electric multiple units (EMUs), trams and high-speed trains. Job Summary The Mechanical Design Engineer - Interiors & Cab will be involved in all technical activities related with the design of the interiors and cab solutions of the rolling stock during the project lifecycle. This extends from requirements management, through design development, Design Review management, support procurement process, problems solving during production activities, and validation of the design. For this duty, the Mechanical Design Engineer in UK will work closely with the company's headquarters engineers. KEY RESPONSABILITIES:- Lead the design team engineers in their activities to develop and delivery of high-quality engineering design work for Cab and Interiors Design (like seats, interior panels, driver desk, door and windows, exterior decals, exterior fairings, etc...) within defined budgets and timescales. Work closely with other project engineers to ensure proper coordination to achieve overall design integrity. Ensure designs are compliant to customer requirements and the applicable law and standards, following the internal design verification and validation process. Requirements Management. Lead Design Reviews (internal + external) for Interiors and Cab Design. Prepare the documentation, attend the meetings and follow up open Design Review items. Assess tender submissions for technical merit and support, from the technical point of view, procurement activities: work with suppliers to ensure designs are fit for purpose. Project follow up and reporting for Interiors Design and Cab activities. Proactively working to contribute to a continuous improvement culture, raising opportunities for improvement whenever these are identified. Support, from the technical point of view, industrialization and production teams during manufacturing ramp-up and commissioning. Qualificiations Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BEng) Knowledge/Skills Experienced (a minimum of 2 years) in railway (rolling stock) design and develop various interiors parts, either new build, retro-fitment, modification or refurbishment, including the ability to understand the inputs required to support the development of a successful design, and the ability to manage designs which accommodate the product lifecycle (manufacture, install, test, operate, maintain, remove, dispose). Design experience according to Fire & Safety regulations, Human Factors & Ergonomics or Interior Crashworthiness requirements would be a plus. Knowledge of CATIA V5 Knowledge of DOORS (Requirements Management software) would be a plus Very good interpersonal and organization skills, open minded, excellent abilities for team work
