Distribution Cost Co-ordinator

An exciting position for an experienced and proactive Distribution Cost Co-ordinator has arisen for my client, a large global FMCG organisation within their dynamic Team in Waltham on the Wolds.

Pay: £14 per hour.

Hours: 37.5 per week.

Duration: 9 months assignment

Location: Waltham on the Wolds, Leicestershire


The role of the Distribution Cost Co-ordinator is to manage all outbound logistics costs (warehousing, haulage, pallets etc.) including submission of period end accruals, trend analysis and ensuring correct timely authorisation of supplier invoices. Provide key analysis to wider supply chain team.

Job Content:

The role sits within the UK Distribution team which is responsible for managing and operating the supply chain from warehouse to customer. The role is responsible for logging and reporting any costs that are invoiced to the outbound logistics budget by any Mars distribution suppliers. The role is responsible for monitoring and reporting upon Logistics team overhead spend ensuring that any spend applied to overheads cost centre is valid.

The role must track and report costs in a way to assist decision making within the network as well as highlight any trends and therefore take part in periodic cost reviews with S&F and provide detailed information to explain any variances to budget. In order to do this there is a requirement to work closely with other members of the Customer Logistics team to understand activities that will drive costs.

The role is responsible for maintaining the haulier rates table whenever there is a rate change (for example due to a fuel rate increase or haulier tender) and ensure that the SAP (Atlas) interface is calculating haulier costs correctly.

The role will support S&F in closing the financial period each period end by making reserves for missing or incorrect invoices and providing variances to budget, e.g. reporting dispatch quantity differences versus forecast. Experience with SAP would be preferable.

Principle Accountabilities:
  • Accountable for accurate financial accruals for late or incorrect invoices at period end.
  • To track invoices from suppliers, verify physical movements against these and approve when appropriate.
  • To track actual costs versus budget versus budget for freight within the outbound logistics network
  • To track and verify actual costs versus budget for Logistics team overheads
  • To record and trend extra payments to hauliers and check that these are accurate.
  • To manage haulier accounts table and rates paid to hauliers.
  • EBUY Key user for Customer Logistics Teams
  • Provide data for network assessment
  • Management and analysis of roadmap / cost data

Background Experience & Qualification
  • Desirable: Educated to National Diploma / A-Level or equivalent;
  • Highly Numerate and analytical
  • Good with Excel
  • Good understanding of systems (SAP)
  • Good Communication skills
