Purpose of the Position

Accountant to coordinate an administration team; develop, implement and maintain financial procedures whilst producing accurate management information to assist in the planning and strategy setting of the organisation.

Responsibilities

  • Preparation and recording of asset, liability, revenue, and expenses entries
  • Maintaining and balancing accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, reconciling transactions; resolving discrepancies
  • Supervise purchase ledger, nominal ledger, sales ledger and credit control clerks
  • Summary of financial status by collecting information; preparing balance sheet, profit and loss, and other statements
  • Monitor funding and cash flow on a daily basis
  • Weekly debt and creditor reviews
  • Preparation and presentation of error-free month end accounting reports (financial and management)
  • Prepare and finalise budgets through collaborative working practices with revenue and cost centres
  • Maintaining and monitoring budgets, bringing deviations, volatility and issues to the attention of the respective budget holders and senior managers
  • Analyse financial data and generate forecasts
  • Error spotting and suggesting ways to improve efficiency and spending
  • Submit VAT returns
  • Maintain accounts in strict accordance with financial regulations and legal requirements to avoid legal challenges
  • Protect the organisation's value by keeping information confidential

Requisites

  • Suitably qualified CCAB - CIPFA, CIMA, ICA, ACA, ACCA, AAT or part qualified with extensive experience and an ability to demonstrate continuing professional development
  • Ability to develop financial management reports including budget monitoring with skills to interpret, present or write financial reports and presentations
  • Experience working with accountancy software (e.g. Sage) and bespoke in-house systems
  • Computer literate with proficient skills in Word and Excel
  • Excellent mathematical skills and communication skills - both in written and verbal form
  • Ability to plan, organise and work to deadlines
  • Team leader and organiser. Strong people skills - likeable, relatable and approachable who inspires trust and confidence
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work flexible schedules
  • Willingness to work at alternative locations when required
