Our client is a leading co-educational Independent School with charitable status located in South East London. This is a highly regarded school across London and beyond. As a charitable organization it has obligations both to its pupils and to the wider community. Both staff and pupils take great pride in this. The commitment from all is evident in the continuing success and progress of the School.

Due to a restructure we are currently looking to recruit a newly created Deputy Finance Manager role. Interviews are likely to take place in August with a September start.

The Deputy Finance Manager will be line managed by the Finance Manager and is ultimately responsible to the Bursar.
Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for working with the Finance Manager to ensure the efficient and effective day to day running of the School's finance department. In particular, the primary tasks of the Deputy Finance Manager are:

Produce regular full management accounts for the School together with the management of the general ledger, and preparation of the detailed charity fund transactions in accordance with Charity reporting and accounting regulations.

Preparing the School's annual financial statements; this would include preparing all accruals, prepayments etc. as well as the supporting notes to the financial statements.

Liaising with external auditors during their annual audit and ensuring compliance with Charity Commission regulations.

Take responsibility for VAT returns and other compliance issues as directed.

Being responsible for the management of credit cards issued to all departments and the first point of contact with the credit card provider. Ensure correct posting to the General Ledger and internal checks are undertaken proactively.

Being responsible for the accounting of educational school trips including the detailed reconciliation of the relevant income and expenditure at the end of each trip.

Management of the Accounts Assistant, ensuring the timely, accurate and smooth operation of the purchase ledger system and cash management.

Carry out the bank reconciliations and prepare or review other key reconciliations each month.

Supervise the administration of all petty cash accounting, including cash advances for trips, ensuring it is reconciled regularly.

Experience & Qualifications

We are ideally looking for a candidate with previous experience within the education sector, however we would consider someone with experience in charitable organisations.

Ideally the successful candidate will be a qualified accountant as recognised through the CCAB professional accountancy bodies or CIMA or qualified by experience.
