Job Summary

QA/COMPLIANCE Technologist (Toys / Non-Food)

Salary £25,000-£28,000

Primary Objectives

We currently have a vacancy for a Toys Technologist at Poundstretcher office in Huddersfield. Reporting the QA/Compliance Manager to ensure that the assigned Toys and Non-food categories have the necessary information and procedures in place to ensure that product integrity and customer satisfaction is maintained to the company's standards and in compliance with UK/EU statutory requirements.

To demonstrate commercial awareness and identify areas of waste or inefficiency in the categories assigned.

To implement, enforce and maintain the Poundstretcher "Product Integrity Supplier Information Manual" for the categories assigned.

To launch product ranges in accordance with critical path timelines.

To manage and continually improve the technical aspects of the import process such as product appraisal for quality, safety and legality, pre-production & post-production sealing procedures and inspections. To clearly communicate standards and requirements to the category buyer, buying controller, Asia offices, suppliers and other external agencies.

To write and communicate any new procedures where required, due to changes in legislation or company requirements

Handle technical and legal issues of quality and specification with suppliers, buyers and merchandising teams.

Monitor refunds for the assigned categories, discuss corrective actions with the buyer and resolve technical issues.

Review the inspection of products into the warehouse and to communicate all non-compliances to suppliers and buyers together with the corrective actions required.

Investigate serious customer complaints for the categories assigned. Reclaim costs from suppliers where possible.

Monitoring stock withdrawn from sale or quarantined stock.

Trading Standards - Reporting to the QA Manager to resolve issues as quickly as possible & ensuring company is able to show due diligence through QA procedures.

Main Responsibilities

Product approvals - Sealing process- technical files/due diligence (expedite approval efficiently so not to delay supply chain)

Determine product specifications in terms of minimum-make standards and tests for safety and performance.

Benchmark product against competitors.

Keep up to date with new legislation and standards and those on the horizon.

Ensure legal/statutory requirements are met - safety standards and general trading.

To attend regular weekly meetings with buying category managers and merchandising team to discuss and review critical path status. Ensure all parties are aware of any outstanding technical or legal requirements.

Communicate any necessary information to stores through Operations Dept.

Writing & maintaining procedures and requirements

Review business processes when required and recommend improvements where necessary.

Resolve Trading Standards referrals.

Skills and Qualifications

Currently in a Technical or QA role with a minimum of 2 years' experience in toy category.

Ideally with a chemical, textile or electrical background in retail or a test laboratory.

Degree desirable or equivalent technical qualification/experience.

Excellent Word, Outlook and Excel skills

Broad technical knowledge of toy products in terms of specification, performance and testing.

Excellent communications skills

Excellent negotiation skills

Ability to lead and motivate individuals

Exceptional time management and planning skills
