Cobham IT has an exciting opportunity for an Enterprise Linux Administrator. The role of the Enterprise Linux Administrator is to establish and Manage Linux environments for use by R&D teams across Cobham within an enterprise IT environment.

Act as the interface with R&D Developers to design system configuration, document and enforce system standards.

Ensure all servers and associated services are running effectively, whilst liaising with event, incident, and problem management functions to achieve SLAs and service ambitions.

Note you will need to meet the requirements to achieve SC Clearance

Location /Bournemouth

As the Enterprise Linux Administrator your skills and qualifications will ideally include:

Qualifications and Experience

* SME level knowledge of Linux: Apt & RPM Based Systems (Centos, RedHat, Debian, etc)

* Experience with cloud platforms, such as AWS and Azure

* Hands on experience in Shell, Perl, and/or Python scripting

* Familiarity with VMWare, SAN management and DR and HA concepts

Core competencies

* Strong background in Unix/ Linux operating systems.

* Strong scripting knowledge in Bash, Ruby, PHP and Python.

* Linux Samba 4/Centrify integration within an Active Directory Environment.

* Understanding of Winbind/SSSD, Kerberos, NTP and DNS.

* Good background of working with data sources such as MySQL, Redis, ElasticSearch etc.

* Good understanding of source control systems, such as Git.

* Firm understanding of continuous integration and deployment tools, such as Chef, Puppet, Jenkins etc.

* Declarative Language Skills.

* Good understanding of standard network services including TCP/IP, HTTP and DNS.

* An understanding of IT service delivery.

* Strong written and verbal communication skills

As the Enterprise Linux Administrator your main responsibilities will involve:

* Proactively maintain and develop all Linux infrastructure technology to maintain a 24x7x365 uptime service.

* Maintain best practices on managing systems and services across all Linux environments.

* Fault finding, analysis and of logging information for reporting of performance exceptions.

* Manage, coordinate, and implement software upgrades, patches, hot fixes on servers, workstations, and network hardware.

* Provide input on ways to improve the stability, security, efficiency, and scalability of the environment.

* Collaborate with other teams and team members to develop automation strategies and deployment processes.

* Incident and problem ticket logging, ownership and update through to resolution.

* Reacting to threats and security breaches as they occur as well as proactively ensuring all systems conform to penetration tests.

* Controlling and managing user access for customers and internal staff.

* Investigating and resolving performance and scalability issues.

* Documenting new systems and any changes to systems ensuring all service artefacts are maintained to a high standard.

* Work within our compliance policy, process and records management framework.
