Operational Risk Managers in our client's Risk department play a key role in ensuring we balance our growth with robust risk management and controls, supported by effective governance, policies and procedures. As part of our Operational Risk team you will help to implement and embed a risk management ethos and culture that ensures our customers are treated fairly whilst supporting our business model and strategic priorities. The Role

Great opportunity for an Operational Risk Manager with expertise in the Technology and / or Payments Operations space to join the team at our client Bank based in Peterborough. You will support management in the implementation of the operational risk management framework and provide expert knowledge and guidance to business units and group functions on all elements of operational risk, with particular focus on Technology, Change, Cybersecurity and Payments Risks. You will also work collaboratively in a relationship management approach, successfully implementing the framework elements and promoting a culture of clear ownership, accountability and responsibility for Operational Risk Management

Key Accountabilities include
  • Support the implementation of the operational risk management framework, ensuring the framework is understood and embedded.
  • Work with key stakeholders across business units and group functions to implement operational risk best practice, including Commercial Directors, COO, CIO, CISO and embedded Operational Risk/Assurance Managers. Support Business functions in the management and treatment of their current and emerging risks.
  • Oversee and monitor adherence to the Operational Risk Management Framework, including requirements within each of the supporting policies and processes, ensuring their robust application across the business and providing reporting on exceptions.
  • Support and challenge of the Change agenda (including regulatory and compliance) through strategic and tactical projects, to ensure risks are clearly identified, managed and mitigated appropriately.
  • Monitor material Risk Events ensuring appropriate remedial work is undertaken by first line business areas and tracked to conclusion, provide validation of data accuracy including allocation to appropriate risk themes/ Basel categories, review associated risk data including RCSAs to ensure controls and risk assessments have been updated.
  • Review RCSAs to identify data exceptions and inconsistencies with other framework elements (including risk events), working with first line business areas to address or raising concerns to management where appropriate.
  • Support the Business lines with their responses to industry/regulator scheme attestations.
  • Review and monitor RCSA actions to ensure timely updates and track to conclusion.
  • Provide oversight of the Risk Acceptance process, ensuring this is applied robustly, central records remain accurate and proactively following up with management on expiring risk acceptances.
  • Providing relevant feedback to first line Commercial Directors, Business Unit Heads, risk supporters and / or SMEs.
  • Supporting reporting to CORC and other committees.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Support Head of Operational Risk Partnering and Group Operational Risk team in analysis and production of thematic oversight reports ensuring these are timely, accurate and relevant to the risks of the business
  • Provide effective communication between second- and first-line risk teams in order to raise exceptions and ensure these are acted upon.
  • Support and help to embed a robust risk culture through the business.
  • Ensure contribution to the team and colleagues
  • Manage and develop reporting relevant to the role.

Maintaining a good understanding of current Bank relevant risks / issues / events enabling constructive challenge and informative reporting

Experience required
  • Experience of working in Technology and/or Payments operations/Risk Management
  • Experience of working within a risk or control area within financial services.
  • Strong awareness of operational risk and control environment execution within a financial services environment.
  • Strong reporting and analytical skills, able to draft reports to senior leaders and Executive Committees.
  • Achieving (results focused, takes initiatives, concern for excellence).
  • Track record of delivery.
