A 3 months maybe more contract opportunity for a Cisco/Jupiter Senior Network Engineer has arisen with the local authorities in Chester.

This is an exciting opportunity to have a significant impact on the technology solutions which support the citizens of Cheshire and true transformation in mobile and flexible working not only for both councils but our partner organisations too. You will be part of the Service Delivery Team that is responsible for deploying and managing the infrastructure. This includes WAN, LAN, Wifi and Telephony solutions at over 500 local authority buildings, schools and other public service buildings (Libraries etc.). These are primarily supported using Cisco LAN WAN & Wi-Fi equipment, Juniper security devices and Avaya Telephony.

The team are embarking on the process of upgrading the services to a new SD-WAN managed PSN compliant Wide Area Network and completing a large scale replacement of Cisco LAN infrastructure at over 200 sites using the very latest Cisco DNA-C deployment model. The successful candidates will need to assist the team with any changes required to support this infrastructure, including the enablement of additional functionality and in support of PSN.

You will have significant, hands-on, experience of configuring Juniper SRX firewalls with multiple routing instances and Cisco ASA firewalls with multiple contexts in a structured and controlled manner using industry best practice. You will be expected to develop, support and maintain up to date the network visualisations

The following knowledge and experience are required

Extensive hands-on experience of configuring and supporting Juniper SRX and Cisco ASA firewalls in a standard and controlled manner.
Significant hands on experience of Cisco Routing and Switching and Juniper Firewall in an enterprise environment covering Local Area, Wide Area and Data Centre Networking in a multi-tenant environment.
Experience of IPS/IDS and cloud connectivity and Exposure to Microsoft cloud services and Remote Access Services would be a distinct advantage.
Public Service Network (PSN) experience
Hands on experience of Wide Area Network migrations in a multi-vendor environment
Experience of data centre network, wide area network and local area network infrastructure design, provision and support in large, multi-tenant enterprise scale IT, telecoms and networking environments.
Likely to hold a recognised network engineering accreditation such as Juniper Networks Certified Specialist and Cisco CCNA/CCNP in Routing and Switching
Expert knowledge of a broad range of networking technologies, protocols, products and suppliers/vendors, including switches, routers, load balancers and firewalls.
Experience of working on projects interfacing with multiple teams and departments
The development, support and maintaining up to date the network documentation and visualisations through the network management platform Cisco PRIME
Simplification and rebuilding of the Corporate, Guest and Partner Wifi services
Provision LAN authentication for networked devices
Building an understanding of Telephony Services and developing skills with new Unified Communications solutionIn addition, you will be providing incident management to our agreed SLA's. The Network Services Team also provides technical support in the following areas:

Management and support of service moves and changes
Advice and guidance to Schools
IPT back office support.
Working with Project Managers to develop solutions to fulfil business requirements
Undertaking responsibility for technical design, build and implementations of solutions, including written Technical Design Overviews regarding networks architecture.
Working alongside the Architecture Services team to implement new network technologies.Hours of work are 8am till 5pm, Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week.
