Electrical Systems Engineer - Greater Manchester - 12 Month Contracts + extensions

We are currently hiring for an Electrical Systems Engineer to work for an advanced engineering and services organisation which specialises in providing critical solutions within the aerospace and defence sectors. The work is in Stockport with paid visits to Romania throughout the year (approximately 4x weeks annually) and is offered on a 12-month contract which will more than likely extend well beyond that.

You will be joining a team working on a range of aircraft development programmes focusing modifications, including small and large aeroplanes and small and large rotorcraft. You will have weekly technical conference calls to ensure that the project is on track and developing in line with technical requirements.

Responsibilities:

ELECTRICS
  • Create an Electrical Load Analysis (ELA) to justify how the new loads are distributed between available busbars and to show that the new loads are within the electrical generation capacity of the aircraft. The new loads will be available when the customer has defined the exact equipment, but we can assume a worst case to start with.
  • Designing simple electrical supplies routing (following the Electrical Standards and Practices documentation) from the main and auxiliary power panels to various locations on the aircraft - mission console, wing hard points, rear door. Electrical current ratings are TBD. Working with the structures team, ensure that adequate clearance is maintained between cables and structure at all locations and that adequate protection is provided to the new looms.
  • Identify suitable electrical plug breaks for the wing hard points, rear door and mission console and work with the structures team to design their installation.
  • Design the internal electrical supply cables in the Mission Console to support the installed equipment controls and displays.
  • Create the Bill of Material to support every aspect of the electrical installation.

AVIONICS/SYSTEM LOOMING
  • Using the vendors' installation manuals, design the cable looms necessary to connect the Mission Console to a belly mounted nominal EO Camera equipment/ miniaturised Radar equipment and to the rear door intercom point.
  • Using the vendors' installation manuals, design the cable looms necessary to connect the Mission Console to the wing hard points.
  • Modify the existing intercom system cables to provide a Station Box and intercom point at the rear door.
  • Design a cable loom to provide aircraft GPS & heading reference information to the Mission Console.
  • Working with the structures team, ensure that adequate clearance is maintained between avionics/systems cables and structure at all locations and that adequate protection is provided to the new looms.
  • Create the Bill of Material to support every aspect of the avionics/systems cable loom installation.

AVIONICS/SYSTEM EQUIPMENT CONSIDERATIONS
  • Identify how to interface the aircraft avionics to the Mission Console to provide GPS/heading reference data. Note that the Mission Console will require an intercom point and Station Box but that it may be possible to repurpose an existing PAX installation.
  • Design the integration of the various equipment controls and displays in the Mission Console - first thoughts on requirements are attached as a diagram.
  • Identify the new equipment required to install the additional Station Box at the rear door and work with the structures team to design the installation.
  • Create the Bill of Material to support every aspect of the equipment installation.

DOCUMENTATION
  • Create formal diagrams/drawings to support all aspects of the electrical/systems/avionics design.
  • Author the Service Bulletin sections concerning the installation of the new role equipment, electrical supplies and avionics/systems equipment.
  • Define and document all electrical/systems ground and flight tests required concerning the new role equipment
  • Create all aspects of the Instructions for Continued Airworthiness (ICA) for the electrical/systems installation.
  • Preparing certification documents including conducting a n aircraft level FMEA or System Safety Analysis (SSA) for the new role equipment.

  • Experience of Avionics
