Junior Legal Counsel / Contracts Executive

Hours Up to 37.5/ week (negotiable), flexible working hours will be considered.

Salary Circa £35,000pa (pro rata) depending on experience

We are looking for a Junior Legal Counsel / Contracts Executive to join our Legal and Compliance Team at our offices based in Portsmouth. The role of Junior Legal Counsel is to provide support to the Head of Legal & Compliance with the existing varied workload and also being a link between the Legal function and the existing Contract and Finance Team Administrators who sit within the Finance team.

You will be involved in the preparation and initial reviews of commercial contracts and addendums, and legal administration.

You must have great attention to detail for this role and be able to deliver a high quality of work, be prepared to take ownership of or escalate queries and will be able to relate to internal and external customers at all levels.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Head of Legal & Compliance in the preparation of a variety of agreements. From tender and bid stages through to negotiation, contract execution and advising throughout the life of a contract.
  • Assist the Legal & Compliance team in advising the business in relation to the application of legal and regulatory obligations, providing additional assistance and training as required.
  • Provide high quality administrative support to the Legal & Compliance team, including developing and maintaining our contract management system.
  • Liaise with relevant departments and other necessary parties, including customers, suppliers, and funders, to ensure legal queries are resolved in an effective manner.
  • Work with the Head of Legal & Compliance to develop and roll out new template agreements, policies and legal procedures and help ensure all legal processes and procedures are being followed and adhered to.

Skills and experience required
  • Legal qualification (such as LLB, LPC, CILEx or equivalent) or significant contract management skills
  • Prior experience of working with commercial contracts, ideally including experience of working in-house
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills - able to provide legal advice in plain English, without jargon
  • Fast learner, who is not afraid to use own initiative to 'get the job done' - a real problem solver
  • Excellent administrative skills and good working knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Experience of managing own workload with limited supervision and working under pressure to achieve deadlines
  • Ability to build relationships at all levels across a business and ability to influence others to achieve positive outcomes
