Associate: Fiduciary Business Controls - Global Governance

JP Morgan's Controls Management Group are responsible for setting standards and providing the tools and infrastructure that ensures the Corporate and Investment Bank has a seamless front to back control environment deployed in mitigation of the Business' inherent operating risks. The CM function is responsible for the End to End Control environment, partnering with Business Management, Legal, Compliance, Product Control, Risk, Technology, Operations and Audit functions aligned to and supporting that Business.

The Role:

The Global Governance CM team works with the regional CMs and the wider business to establish, drive and optimise control governance and establish and maintain mechanisms that identify and quantify operational risk. This role will be responsible for delivering information and materials to support the changing Control governance environment, primarily focused on Global/Regional Fiduciary committees.

The Global Governance Fiduciary Business Controls Assoc role will report to the Global Governance lead whilst partnering with Security Services Control Managers (CM) globally. The role involves senior level stakeholder preparing governance materials and project activities. The role requires regular interaction with the Head of Security Services Controls. Candidates should be able to demonstrate strong leadership and project management skills, combined with both the ability to work independently, as well as contributing more broadly across the team, helping to set the vision and agenda for the team as a whole.

Scope of Responsibility:

On a day to day basis the Governance CM will be responsible for:

CIB Controls Management - Governance
  • Leading the continuous process improvement of the Governance function and continue to promote the team as a "go to" partner representing the CM function across functional areas (reporting, projects etc)
  • Build relationships across Security Services, where suitable, to drive the Controls agenda through Governance
  • Proactively breaks down organizational barriers to increase productivity and eliminate bureaucracy
  • Owning key Governance forums/Information Feeds
  • FRISK - CIB Fiduciary Risk Committee
  • IROC - Investment Risk Oversight Committee
  • TARRC - Depositary Services Transaction Approval & Risk Review Committee
  • ETOC - ERISA Trust and Oversight Committee
Help define the agenda and determine meeting materials
Ensuring timely sourcing of control partner's information
Driving consistency and leveraging central materials for other Controls forums
Escalate and highlight key controls and risks to the Line of Business CMs
Ensure timely sourcing and submission of regional control information

Improving Analytics
  • Understand opportunities for leverage within CIB, feedback and manage Investment & Corporate Banking and Wholesale Payments and alongside the Security Services business
  • Run Tactical reporting / Analytics to drive agenda forward, whilst ensuring strategic plans in place to replace tactical work.
  • Produce, present and maintain senior materials giving clear insight into the current risk posture of the business
  • Support Deep dive of errors and risk events to ensure all control gaps are highlighted and appropriate actions taken.
  • Leveraging and driving metrics and analysis to determine current status and support leads CM in determination of Control Risk.
  • Cross LOB inherent / residual risk and control benchmarking & results analysis


Scope of requirements will be based on externally defined regulations, evolving as they move through consultation, technical standards and into implementation. They will be part of a global team, with emphasis on local regional requirements, driven by location. The role will provide high profile visibility across the CIB Controls organization, with broad cross-functional and cross-LoB involvement, and the opportunity for extensive exposure to senior management.

Qualifications

Required Skills and Preferred Experience:
  • Understanding of the finance industry regulatory environment and impact on business strategy desirable, but a keen interest required
  • 3 to 5 years experience in the Financial Services industry, with a strong understanding of the products and markets in which the CIB operates
  • Experience working with the regulatory agenda
  • Experience in a controls related role
  • Exceptional Communication Skills:
  • Ability to liaise with senior management and communicate at an appropriate level
  • Attention to detail with the ability to succinctly communicate requirements to LoBs with appropriate presentation materials
  • Ability to interpret issues raised then prioritize and communicate to senior management and other key stakeholders regarding resolution plans and expectations
  • Proven experience in producing regulator ready materials. Ensuring documentation satisfies regulatory requirements and internal business objectives in a clear and concise manner.

  • Exceptional Excel & Power Point Skills
Strong Analytical/Data Mining Skills
Report/SharePoint Design desirable
Strong working knowledge of end to end flows of at least 1 CIB product class/process
Ability to streamline work processes, eliminating steps that do not add value
Ability to take a great deal of information, analyze it, hypothesize, conclude synthesize and summarize into a story for senior management.
