Salary: £51,100 to £77,300 depending on skills and experience + car/cash allowance + annual bonus
Working Pattern: Permanent Full Time Flexible working patterns available 37 hours per week
About the Department
Our SSE Markets Regulation and Group Compliance function is accountable for providing specific legislative, regulatory, industry code, cost forecast and market arrangements advice and guidance tailored to the businesses. We oversee and monitor the businesses compliance using a risk based approach, ensuring effective controls and systems are in place and support the businesses to take corrective actions. We provide subject matter expertise and support to the management of SSEs relationships with external regulatory stakeholders, such as Ofgem. Working with our business, we identify, prioritise and lead SSEs responses to existing and new market frameworks, codes and regulatory policy changes (including dealing with information requests, consultation and attending external meetings) to influence and secure the best outcomes for SSE. We also support the business to fully understand, interpret and act upon the changes.
What is the Role
This new senior role will take primary responsibility for developing SSEs approach to the rapidly evolving electricity code framework in GB. The Head of Electricity Codes will have responsibility for providing electricity code management services to five SSE business units.
You will be responsible for formulating SSEs responses to changing market codes You will identify high value and high-risk areas. You will develop and maintain the means of understanding and communicating the commercial consequences of code change and determine actions needed to help develop SSEs response in ways that maximise potential value and minimise likely costs.
You will be accountable for identifying significant issues with the codes (CUSC, BSC, Grid Code, European Network Code) that govern the GB wholesale electricity market and for prioritising and leading on SSEs responses to code change, and supporting the SSE businesses to fully understand, interpret and act upon the changes. We work collaboratively with the SSE energy businesses, Electricity Code administrators, the industry regulator, and industry parties to assess the impact of change and secure the best outcomes for SSE. As part of this you will take the lead in maintaining SSEs relationships with the code administrators through effective external engagement activity.
You will be directly responsible for a small team of electricity code managers.
What do I need?
Ideally you will have a detailed knowledge of the GB electricity market including GB transmission charging arrangements and/or knowledge of the electricity balancing system.
Qualified to degree level with relevant experience you'll have the ability to interpret complex industry codes/legal drafting as well as understand the commercial consequences of code changes. Excellent communication and project management skills will be important attributes for the role. You will have experience of informal negotiation.
You'll have an awareness of how to manage the interactions between specific code needs/-commercial issues/regulatory obligations and broader business and policy objectives.
You'll need to be highly motivated; have good decision-making skills/judgement while paying close attention to details and being able to work to demanding deadlines.
You must be able to outline complex issues in a straightforward and succinct way.
