The Corporate & Investment Bank (CIB) Operational Risk Management(ORM) team is responsible for independently assessing, reviewing and overseeingthe management of Operational Risk by the first line of defense.

The successful candidate will join a small team of risk professionalsfrom a diverse range of backgrounds and experience who collectively ensure thatthe Firm's Operational Risk Management Framework is implemented and functionseffectively within CIB Markets.


The successful candidate will be based in London. Thecandidate will be responsible for:

  • Understanding growth or changesin business models and how these will impact operational risk
  • Independentlyevaluating and challenging implementation of the firm's Operational RiskManagement Framework ("ORMF"), promotingcross-LOB/Function consistency and adoption of best practices.
  • Challengingthe mitigation of catastrophic risks relating to Electronic Trading (E-Trading)Operational Risk Management
  • Building out the E-TradingOperational risk Management Framework designed to provide effective challengeto the growing E-Trading Business activities across CIB Markets.
  • Reviewing new or materialchanges to E-Trading Activities.
  • Reviewing the risks identified by the first line of defense.Where appropriate, providing independent and credible challenge to the firstline and escalating any new or emerging risks or issues.
  • Independently assesses operational risks for relevant Marketsbusiness through quantitative and qualitative means. Drive the second line ofdefenses independent assessment which identifies risk drivers that may impactoperational risk activities and the controls to help mitigate such risks.
  • Using the results of risk assessments to identify heightenedareas of operational risk to independently monitor the risks and test theeffectiveness of controls within the relevant Markets business.
  • Utilizing key risk indicators (KRIs), key performanceindicators (KPIs), and other metrics to periodically identify areas whereincremental monitoring and / or testing may be needed. Reviewing and enrichingKRIs and KPIs as required.
  • Informingthe firm of operational risk levels and provide associated second line ofdefense support to all areas of the firm.
  • Identifyingissues for the first line of defense to remediate through action plans and reviewingKRI and KPI thresholds, as required.
  • Leveraginga centralized strategy for metrics and dashboard reporting to support the CIBMarkets ORM Mandate.
  • Reporting on results includingchanges in risk assessments, results of monitoring and testing, and requiredcorrective actions to senior management, consistent with the firm's escalationpractices.
  • Providinginput into policies and standards established by Operational Risk and thesecond line of defense which set forth the requirements for CIB regarding themanagement of operational risk and enables oversight and independent assessmentover operational risks inherent within the firm's activities.
  • Liaising with key stakeholdersacross Markets including first, second and third line of defence.
  • Driving the broader Operational Risk agenda through research,presentations, assessments and reviews
  • Bring a focus upon internalprocess re-engineering, with a view to making recommendations and enhancementsto existing Risk processes where opportunities arise
  • Stay abreast of industry newsand regulatory developments to facilitate proactive risk identification andmitigation.
  • Review root cause analysis oninternal operational risk events and maintain vigilance on external operational/ market events


  • Minimum Bachelor degree; or sufficient compensatingexperience
  • Experience with risk management, product ownership,business management and operations, controls management, or applicationdevelopment with an emphasis on financial markets.
  • Understanding of Markets business,internal systems (including E-Trading systems), processes, front to back tradelife cycle in detail an advantage
  • Excellent project management withsuccessful track record of completion
  • Strong team player and self-starter
  • Passionate and capable of learning in a changingenvironment while delivering results.
