Brief overview of the role:

Linux Engineer needed to join a Leading Secure IT Managed service Organisation based in Shrivenham Oxford. The Individual will be responsible for supporting some of the LINUX solution design aspects and more in depth contributions to the development and implementation of multiple "Greenfield" secure enterprise solutions.

Solid diagnostic skills incorporating end-to-end problem investigation and resolution and supporting the acceptance testing of the whole complex LINUX solutions working with the Project Manager / Customer following the completion of each work stream or as defined by the Project Manager

Routine duties include but are not limited to;
  • Maintain and improve our secure hosted offerings of over several hundred machines, all based on RedHat and CentOS versions 6 and 7
  • Provide 3rd Line Technical Support and Fault Resolution to 1st/2nd Line Support Teams
  • Support the development of Open Source tools into enterprise solutions
  • Provide Subject Matter Technical advice and support
  • Support the production of High and Low Level Design Documents
  • Act as a focal point for Technical Personnel within their area of responsibility

    Technical Specialisms:
  • LINUX OS deploy and manage including cluster builds, experience of open source deployment and configuration and also use of automation tools such as puppet or RedHat satellite server would be desirable but training given.
  • A working knowledge of TCP/IP Networking LAN and WAN and technologies such as IP Tables
  • Knowledge and understanding of OS hardening techniques

Essential Skills and Experience

A minimum of 2 years' experience working with at least two of the following technologies as part of enterprise scale solutions:
  • Linux Technologies (RedHat Server, Ubuntu Server, Open Source Software, auto deployment and packaging)
  • Network Technologies (Cisco WAN, LAN, firewalls, switches and routers. Juniper security products) extensive TCP/IP v4
  • Storage Technologies (EMC storage arrays, EMC storage software, fibre channel networks)
  • Virtualisation with VMware or HyperV
  • Discipline to follow ITIL best practices and ISO9001, ISO20000 & ISO27001 certifications
  • Discipline to follow development and deployment best practices.

Certifications or recent years' experience
  • RedHat Certified Technician or equivalent experience
  • Working with Linux auto deployment and patching tools such as puppet and RedHat Satellite
  • Networking with TCP/IP
