In This business Pre Sales covers all of the activities that are done before a customer is acquired but will focus heavily on the technical aspects of requirements, solutions, proposals and some delivery activities.

The consultant will support the sales person in pre-sales activity and ensure that from a technological perspective, what is sold can be delivered. They will take the lead role in understanding the business requirements of the customer/partner and define how they can be mapped into a service solution.

The Pre Sales Consultant will have a technical background and solid understanding of IT technologies. They will be responsible for supporting the Sales person in customer facing pre sales activities that will drive sales of services and solutions. Duties will include the presentation of recommendations in written proposals, verbally in meetings, or via more formal presentations to customers/partners that will relate both technical and business benefits to decision makers up to board level.

The Pre Sales Consultant will play an active role and be a key contributor to the delivery of high quality quotations, PQQ, RFI and RFP responses, attending and participating in customer presentations of proposals, bid support, supplier days, events and technology seminars where appropriate.

Key Responsibilities

The key responsibilities of this role are:
  • To provide in-depth presales support/activities via:
  • High-level solution design options based on the client's needs
  • Detailed service and product presentations, with, if appropriate, demonstrations
  • Design and deliver proof of concept options if required or appropriate
  • Completion of high quality quotations, PQQ, RFI and RFP responses to customer requirements
  • Provision of training to the sales team on all product and technical matters
  • Providing a link between sales and project delivery to ensure that the customer experience is consistent and their expectations are both managed and met
  • Participation in project definition workshops and design sessions to ensure consistency of messaging from sales activity
  • Provision of insight into what is possible via presentations (and demonstrations where appropriate)
  • Leading and facilitating discussions to capture the business needs and translate these into conceptual high level designs prior to engagement with the Technical Architects
  • Capture, define and document the design of the proposed solution that is clear to technical and non-technical audiences, including clear business outcomes, functional design etc.
  • Clearly communicate (both verbal and written) to the Delivery Team (and other stakeholders) what the solution design means
  • Assist and support the Delivery Team, if required, based upon skill set and resource needs
  • Provide post go live (service transition) support as appropriate to stakeholders
  • Working as an integrated member of the sales team on proposals and presentations to customer and partners
  • Assist Sales colleagues with qualifying prospects
  • Assist Sales colleagues with Sales "Pitches"
  • Support from a Pre Sales perspective, Sales and Marketing initiatives/campaigns
  • Attending meetings with Sales colleagues and acting as a technical advisor
  • Compilation of business cases for Sales colleagues to support their proposals
  • Working closely and collaboratively with customers to understand, capture and deliver effective and innovative solutions
  • Ensuring the proposed solution will deliver the customers/partners requirements
  • Responding with agility to customers following requests for information and proposal requests
  • Presenting proposals to customers alongside members of the sales team (and wider MDS business where appropriate)
  • Producing detailed costings for customers and ensuring the contract is profitable
  • Provide ongoing support, post implementation if/when appropriate

Professional and Operational Experience
  • Previous experience of working in a Pre-Sales/Sales Support position
  • Demonstrable experience of supporting solution based sales in ICT managed services, cloud and physical hosting services
  • A proven track record of developing and effectively implementing sales solutions to meet the customers needs and delivering business results
  • Proven track record of securing commitment with customers to achieve joint objectives
  • Excellent communication skills and telephone manner
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Excellent documentation and language skills
  • Understanding of Information Security aligned to ISO27001
  • Understanding of ITIL service management process and, in particular, service level agreements
  • Experience in leading customer presentations and negotiations - both pre and post sales
  • Awareness of commercial and contractual clauses relevant to the provision of scope of service
  • The ability to quickly understand business strategy
  • To be eligible to obtain full UK SC Security Clearance
