We are supporting our client, a major automotive retailer, who are looking for a Junior or Assistant Legal Counsel / Contracts Manager to join their Legal and Compliance Team at their offices based in Portsmouth.

A legal background is essential for this role and work experience is probably more important than qualifications. This opportunity would suit someone who has worked in-house for a larger firm, or has been working in local government as part of the commercial, corporate and governance teams.

The ideal background would be as Contracts Manager, Junior Legal Counsel, Assistant Legal Counsel or a very strong Legal Executive who can demonstrate experience and knowledge and is looking for a lift up in career. Obviously we welcome all applications from qualified solicitors as well.

The role of Assistant Legal Counsel (or Contracts Manager) is to support the Head of Legal & Compliance (who is also the Data Protection Lead) at an exciting and challenging time. With GDPR tasks ongoing, a new contract structure to be rolled out, a review of legal processes and procedures on the horizon, new and existing customers, suppliers and funders to contract with there is a lot on the 'to do' list. You'll be key to helping the Head of Legal & Compliance with the existing varied workload and also being a link between the Legal function and the existing Contract and Finance Team Administrators who sit within the Finance team.

You'll be involved in the preparation and reviews of commercial contracts and addendums, assisting with preparing supply chain tenders and responding to customer tenders, helping address customer issues and those of a regulatory, IP/IT and general commercial nature. You'll need to be willing to roll your sleeves up and help with legal and contract administration too.

You must have great attention to detail for this role and be able to deliver a high quality of work, be prepared to take ownership of or escalate queries and will be able to relate to internal and external customers at all levels.

This is an exciting time to join a busy environment for One of the UK's leading employers (an Automotive Retail Group) who will provide you with a genuine long-term career and chance to shine.
