About the Department

At SSE, Safety is our number one value. We live by the mantra if its not safe, we don't do it and this is the key objective of our Safety team. Whether it be our own people, or a focus on our customers and communities, our SHE teams are responsible for ensuring we minimise risk and get everyone safely at the end of the working day.

What is the Role

As a key member of the SSE Renewables Safety Leadership Team you'll be responsible for the operational SHE delivery for the Wind Operations business within SSE Renewables.

You'll support the wind operations team in their endeavours to keep people, assets and the environment safe from harm by actively applying and promoting SHE policies and standards across the group. You'll also oversee SHE in joint ventures where SSE Renewables is currently a non-operating partner and, where possible, influence SHE management of the Wind Operations assets, as appropriate throughout their lifecycle.

You'll have key responsibility for ensuring SHE Operations is a trusted partner both internally within the SHE Team and across the SSE Group, keeping the environment safe as projects are developed, delivered, operated and decommissioned. This will include the provision of the necessary support and guidance for the directorate to be able to manage their risks. Furthermore, you'll apply standards on the type of quality communication to all stakeholders within the SSE Renewables SHE team and the wider SHE function.

You'll work closely with the Renewable Operations business to deliver the SSEs key SHE objective of ensuring all personnel and contractors associated with our works go home safely. You will ensure that company wide SHE initiatives are delivered in a clear, consistent and frequent way including working with preferred/strategic contractors to develop stronger, safer and respectful relationships on site. You'll also provide direct Leadership support to the Local Safety Groups.

What do I need

You should hold a professional qualification in Occupational Health and Safety Management and/or hold a scientific, engineering or equivalent qualification along with relevant industry experience. Furthermore, you'll be a registered member of IOSH or equivalent accrediting body (or be willing to work towards this). You'll have experience of working in a high-hazard industry and have sound working knowledge of SHE regulations in the UK and Ireland in line with SSE Business Environments. You'll have a good understanding of SHE Management Systems, SHE Risks and UK Legal Framework along with a good eye for spotting business opportunities. Additionally, you will have a sound knowledge of wind turbine safety rules and other practices.

You should be an excellent communicator with a natural flair for forging relationships with key stakeholders at all levels. You'll have the ability to work and deliver against challenging constraints. A problem solver and critical thinker, you will be able to simplify complete issues through to a well-structured systematic approach, understand risks and implement appropriate solutions. Above all, you will demonstrate awareness of both personal and corporate safety practices.

Due to the level of mobility required in this role a full driving licence is essential.

Please be aware if you are successful, you'll be required to complete our pre-employment screening process before joining SSE.
