Main function of job:Our client's junior forensic accounting role is to provide support to the wider forensic and legal teams in the following areas:
  • The development of loss calculations arising from personal injury.
  • Open source intelligence investigations
  • Analysis and presentation of data
  • Creation of decision trees
  • Research
  • Training and marketing
  • Reporting

The role offers experience in a range of areas covered by forensic accounting and litigation support including:
  • Insurance claims
  • Commercial disputes and arbitrations
  • White collar crime and other internal investigations

We are expanding our forensic team primarily to respond to our clients' demands that we are able to undertake higher volumes of insurance work.

  • Responsible to: Supervising forensic accountants
  • Works with: Supervising forensic accountants, legal fee earners (paralegals through to partners), other fee earners (e.g. other Connected Services teams)
  • Liaison with: supervising forensic accountants, legal fee earners, other fee earners, support staff, e.g. facilities managers, team secretaries, marketing teams, IT support.

Main Duties:
  • To learn how to review and critically appraise insurance related claims and to prepare and/or challenge calculations for loss of earnings and pension arising from personal injury. In due course, you will take responsibility for a portfolio of matters.
  • To prepare analysis of accounts, tax records and bank statements to identify trends and to assist in the calculation of employment and other losses.
  • To review documents received in support of claims and identify any further documents/evidence required.
  • To assist in other types of forensic accounting work (such as the calculation of quantum arising in commercial disputes or fraud investigations) as required.
  • To receive 'on the job' training on conducting open source research and the preparation of decision trees.
  • To draft reports and/or file notes setting out review findings.
  • To proof read and/or sense check written reports and analyses.
  • To take a proactive approach to managing their workloads and supporting their supervisors.
  • To assist with the maintenance and review of work logs.
  • To assist in preparing management information.
  • To build rapport with peer their group, which will include paralegals and junior solicitors.

The above is not an exhaustive list of duties and you will be expected to perform different tasks as necessitated by your changing role within the organisation and the overall business objectives of the organisation.
Experience and Competence:
  • Hold a recognised UK accountancy qualification (such as AAT).
  • Be a competent user of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Have good communication skills, verbally and written.
  • Pay attention to detail.
  • Be a lateral thinker.

  • Experience of accounts preparation.
  • Experience of the preparation of self-assessment tax returns.
  • Able to interpret a set of financial statements.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

Person Spec:
The person recruited to fulfil this role must be keen to learn and grow; appropriate 'on the job' training will be provided by supervisors but the individual will also need to take personal responsibility for achieving targets.
They will need to be prepared to work in an unstructured environment, every day can be very different and workloads fluctuate, but with that comes opportunities to use initiative to help build the success of this relatively new and growing team.
